Thank you for posting the website. Unfortunately it only works if they actually remove your number as I saw this number previously, came here and found this website listed and put my phone number in. They called again today. Hopefully this time when I went to their website they will remove my number this time.
These calls are from Harris-Decima Research, which is a long-standing, recognized, and supposedly respected (??!) survey organization. I don't mind doing short surveys for them, but we object to being awakened late at night. Last night after 10 PM I did not hear the phone, so my disabled wife struggled painfully to answer it quickly, thinking it must be a family emergency calling that late. They rang again this morning and I told them (politely) what I think of them. SHAME, DECIMA, SHAME! By the way, I don't know what gave TN in Vancouver (12 Feb 07) the idea the calls come from there, unless there is some amazing electronic transfer method that shows the call originating somewhere other than the area code and prefix indicates. (514) 288- numbers are essentially in the west-central part of the City of Montreal. When I see 288 I think "rue Atwater", "Atwater Market", the Forum, etc. Oui! These are the old AT8- numbers.
1-900 numbers are intended for "for pay" calls, like phone sex, dating, sports line, etc., where the service provider sets the charge per call. it's not an urban myth, and can be quite expensive.some non-900 area codes are also surprisingly expensive, where a local telco is in collusion with the scammers, to charge ridiculous rates, which your telco is obligated to collect. usually it's an obscure place like the us virgin islands, and the scammers deliberately play you to make the call as long as possible (leave you on hold, multiple transfers, etc.).expensive and a huge waste of time to try to get your money back.note that is regular long distance and not some magic "hack" at all.
They called me on today, a SUNDAY. I thought they weren't supposed to call on Sundays. This is getting ridiculous. I tried the link, but my Anti Virus Program stopped the page from loading. Does any one else have any ideas.
panasonic cordless phones with their call blocking feature are a treat! (but only allow you to block 30 numbers at once.) you hear half and ring and the call goes away...
the national do not call list is rubbish because:1) it's "national". telemarketers outside the "nation" (such as the far east) aren't affected.2) it has exemptions for some kinds of tele-pests, like political fundraisers, or if you have a "business relationship" with the company ("you entered our contest at the mall" or similar bs), etc.3) the list itself is made available to telemarketers - it has to be, so they know who not to call. but it's easy enough to use (with spoofed callerid), or sell to another pest outside the jurisdiction.judging by the number of complaints on here, it's useless.
