Some pervert called and asked if Mike Hunt was in the parking lot. I blasted his ear with my rape whistle.

This is a spoofed number. I called Verizon b/c I receive at least 5 calls a week from this number. It's always dead air. When I call number back there's an announcement from Verizon saying the number is no longer in service. Verizon told me that's b/c that's not the actual number they're calling from. Never has there been a person on the phone, if you stay on long enough then it will turn from dead air to a busy signal.Few days ago I was talking to a neighbor and he asked if I knew who's phone number was 802-4670. I was shocked he was getting them too. I don't get it as there's never been a voice on the other end. I'm just bombarded with calls.

I called Verizon and asked them that question. They said b/c it's not really the number they are calling from. It's a spoofed number. They call me at least 5 times a week and it's always been dead air. Now I just pick up and immediately hang up. My next door neighbor gets calls as well.

Gracie, I called Verizon and asked them (as announcement said the Verizon number you called has been disconnected, changed or no longer in service) and they told me it's b/c that's not really the number they're calling from. It's a spoofed number. For me, there's only dead air. They call me ALL the time. I just pick up and hang up. I also just found out my neighbor is getting calls as well.

If you have a smartphone, you can use it to block callers as well.

The caller ID listed this as "WIRELESS CALLER." I didn't answer it. I've been keeping a record of all calls over the last year and I've received 17 calls from 15 different "WIRELESS CALLER" numbers (and a real call from my mom). After googling each number they were all the "You've won a free cruise/trip" scammers - usually using spoofed numbers ("This number has been disconnected" on callback). The common thread was that they're attempting to harvest any personal information and credit card numbers they can.get to defraud you. If you answer the call and get dead air, expect even more calls from various robodialing scambots a day, week or a month later. And remember, criminals don't care at all about conforming to the Do Not Call list, that's only useful against legitimate marketing.
