If you go on to the Verizon website and look at the online Verizon forums at Verizon.com you will see multiple threads referring to outside agencies that do billing for Verizon. It is a very common practice so please stop all the conspiracy theory [***]. If you don't trust the phone number hang up and go online to Verizon.com
I received a call from this number on March 10, 2014. When I answered my cell phone, the person hung up. The caller is Verizon Wireless, or perhaps more accurately call banks paid by Verizon Wireless. When Verizon Wireless engaged in similar calls a couple of years ago (i.e. calling me and misrepresenting the purpose and authorization for their inquiry) I obtained as much information as I could from that caller who at least stayed on the phone. I managed to get sufficient information to call Verizon back and go higher up the ladder with all the details I had noted, and demanded that they cease in asserting authorization which I had never given them. When it came time for renewing the contract, this issue among other poor service issues, resulted in my decision to not renew. Two years later, I am back with Verizon Wireless. How do you pick among the cell phone service providers? They are not attentive to issues of service or ethical standards. Until Congress imposes standards and revives the anti-trust laws which have been gutted of all enforcement potential for years, we are left with no meaningful choices. The only thing worse is COMCAST which is a huge Monopoly with no signs that either the courts or Congress are prepared to reign them in.
It is possible that it is both a scam and legitimate. The scammer could be faking his callerID, so when you answer, it could be real or a scam, if you call them back, you get the Verizon contractor. The reason I think this is happening is that I am not a Verizon customer, and when I called the number back, they had no record of calling me.
I received a call yesterday and today from different numbers. Yesterday if was 617-892-4037. I called the number back (617-830-4490) and got a recording that said it was Verizon Financial Services. The phone is in my daughter's name, and the bill was paid on time, and has been paid on time every month. When I pressed "1" to say I was her, it asked for her zip code. I hung up, and called her. She called Verizon Customer Service and they verified that the bill has been paid and was on time. If I had reached someone, I certainly wouldn't give anyone a SS number or a credit card number.
It is not a scam they had access to all of my Verizon details I had already made a payment online and they already had recorded it. This number You to one of several Verizon payment contractors. They are completely legitimate.
Received several calls from (617) 830-4490 (wireless caller from Boston area) comes up as Boson MA on the caller ID.Also received a call from (161) 783-0449 (land line caller from Boston area) comes up on caller ID Unknown Name. This number does not exist!!!Check out the numbers in common: 617830449 is the same string of numbers for them both....and NO, neither are Verizon
It's not Verizon. They'd call at times at which it was legal to do so. They just called me again today again, Saturday, at 8:14am. This is the 6th day and the 4th number (usually starts with 617-849...) this includes Monday, which was a federal holiday.I spoke with actual Verizon wireless via *611, and they would never call from a local number.Whoever it is is trying to get people's social security number and bank account info rtc. NOT VERIZON.
definately a scam. they have called me 10 or more times in the last 4 days. i did answer twice and neither time could they verify they are actually verizon and kept asking me for my phone number. i declined and said they should know since they called me. but they wouldnt offer me any information. it was kinda amusing for a few minutes. they even put a 'supervisor' on when i asked for one. and numbers they quote me as owing are way off anything that my bill has ever been, plus the billing cycle they quote is way off.i immediately called verizon and they confirmed that the numbers were not theirs. they reported the number but couldn't block the scam numbers since my company is the owner of my account. You can, however, ask verizon to block the numbers if you are a customer.
