the guy called round 9.20 p.m. 9/30/14 saying he was from microsoft saying my computer is going to crash had a forgien language that I could barely understand told him no and f--k off!
The same man with a very heavy Indian accent called me with the same message about 20 minutes ago. (He has called many times in the past week or two but I didn't bother answering because I didn't recognize the area code.) I told him he was a liar because I hadn't used my computer in almost 2 years. THEN he had the audacity to ask if he could talk to me anyway. When I said "No, I don't talk to people who call me and lie to me" he hung up.
A quick hang-up could mean they're just checking to see if your number is working so they can keep you on their list to hit again and for resale. Of course the number doesn't work, most scammers aren't going to reveal where they're really calling from so they spoof caller IDs with dummy numbers. That way there's nothing you can do about the call other than warn others. Do Not Call does no good against scammers anyway. Calling the numbers back isn't too smart a move either. Say you get a real number that leaves you the option to be "added to our no-call list". You do it, but what you're also doing in the process is telling them your number works, likely leaving you subject to a slew of more worthless calls. A quick hang-up could also mean they're second guessing the reason they called, or have nothing to work from. If they get an answer, it's a small win. Don't answer unknown numbers and certainly don't return their call. Turning your answering machine off to mystery callers doesn't hurt, either. They call you, but come away empty-handed, making them believe your number isn't active. Numbers like this seem to have an assortment of spiels they use to try and trick you with from credit cards, tech support, to loans. Piss them off and don't answer at all.
I got a call congratulating me on winning a grant of $9000. The man with a heavy accent knew all my info. Creepy!
More than one person or persons is using this #. Several people on this list are saying it was Liberty University calling. The man who called me also had a very heavy Indian accent. Claiming to be from Microsoft he told me MY computer was sending Microsoft messages! LOL Since I doubt it is the same man making all of these bogus calls I believe it is some company based in India with different stories to trick people into revealing information.
What about it? It fights off LEGITIMATE telemarketers as it's supposed to, telling you what calls you're getting aren't registered with it. That means they're either scammers, fundraisers, political, or bill collectors--all unaffected by the DNC registry. That way, chances of being prosecuted become slimmer yet. Without DNC, you'd probably be getting bombarded with worthless calls even harder than you already may do. It's meant to stop legitimate telemarketing and that's all--nothing more.
Just (10/5/14) got a call from this number too. They didn't leave a message. That should have been my first clue. I called back to hear that the number is not in service. I wish I could disappear digitally that is so that these creeps don't enter my world.
I got the call from this number on my cell phone! I didn't answer, they did not leave a message and I went to my provider's site, went to block calls/messages and entered the phone number so they can't get through for 3 months! I'm so fed up! I do not provide my cell number, for anything yet I get the calls! Don't these [***] have anything else to do? Why is there NOT a way to stop this?
