I recently got a new line added to my att account and they are calling for the person that use to own the line. I called ATT and they said they can't inform the collection people as is a different area. It sucks! I basically yelled at the man calling and he said he wasn't calling back.

800-380-1196 is the Business Receivables number, while 800-947-5096 is the Consumer Receivables number. When we make outbound calls we must give you the account # or the mobile #, but then we need to have whomever we call give their name to us, so that we are sure the correct person answered the call. I'm sorry you had this experience.

It's ATT collections - I called the number back and that's how they answered.

Left automated message just saying the phone's number and to press one to get a person. It did not say it was AT&T. I Did not call back. Mysteriously a week later Service was cut off called AT&T number on phone bill had a $300 dollar charge to account that they said was over due but did not know what it was for and would not believe I did not receive a bill for it, so made excuse to end call. Went to AT&T store charge showed up on account but they also had no clue what it was for, so they took it off. Just be careful and call AT&T costumer service 800-331-0500 directly. This my be a shadow number that sometimes has information about your account.

I began receiving text messages from "Free AT&T Msg" about my employer's bill being past due. I forwarded the information to my boss who confirmed our AT&T account is current so I deleted the texts. I just received another 2 text messages asking me to contact AT&T at 800-351-9056 or 800-380-1196 to avoid service interruption. I will continue to ignore since my boss has said our account is current, but I wanted to let people know that the messages from this scamming group may come as texts not just phone calls. AT&T has fully admitted their "Free AT&T msg" texts are very easy to fake.

This is a horrible way of doing business and it sounds like a scam.

This number left a message in my husband's line. That number is not the main contact. That was flag #1. The serving was the sad, cheap robot voice... it wasn't something AT&T would use.

This is a huge SCAM. They called claiming they were "AT&T" and that I had an outstanding balance of like $1,600 (which I knew was absolutely not true). I hung up with them without giving any personal information and called AT&T directly, they confirmed this is a scam and was not them.

I am guessing... collectors.
