I received Amazon card on 1/19/16 which I did not apply for. The next day a letter came in and requested a call back no later 2/12/16 to complete the credit application ?????? The phone number for a call back is 800-480-0186.I cut the card and did not make a call back, after seaching on Google. This appears to be bogus.
got the same letter never applied for this card Am going to call Amazon and this bank on the letter. Maybe contact local police dept about scam
I received a letter in the mail supposedly from Amazon.com Store card - Synchrony Bank, Creditor advising that I needed to call them by 8/11/16. I did NOT apply for an Amazon store card. I called the number on the letter and the first thing they wanted was the last 4 digits of my SSN, which I would not give them. They kept saying it was a secure line, but I told then I would NOT give them the information since I did not apply for the card. I tried to reach Amazon (no phone number available) so I sent an email to their phishing department on 7/18/16 - never heard back. I got the Amazon card in the mail today. I will try to reach Amazon again about this because they are using their actual Bank of record on the letter.
My friend received a LETTER very similar to Katyogrady -- it mentioned Walmart, where she seldom if ever shops, and Synchrony Bank with the phone number 800-480-0186. Glad to confirm that it's bogus, she feels better.
My elderly father received a LETTER from Synchrony Bank Creditor (PO Box 965002, Orlando, FL 32896-5002) that thanked him for his recent credit application with Lowe's. So I called this number & told them that my father never applied for a credit card with Lowe's I was told that it looked like someone applied on line. My father doesn't own nor use a computer. When they started to ask for info, including his full Social Security number (but of course we didn't do that), my Dad, has always been very cautious about this sort of thing. The man I spoke with told me that I should call the Credit Bureau & report this as a fraud alert. He gave me they number for Trans Union & when I called there I was asked to put in his SS # & I didn't want to do that either. Then I had a thought, why not call Lowe's & ask for their credit dept. about this & when I did I was connected with the Fraud Dept there & spoke with "y" (don't want to use her full name)who was very helpful & when I told her the reference # she informed me that this # did not exist & she told me the letter my father had was a fraud & someone was attempting to fish for info. Thankfully my father has taught me many things over the years including not giving out your SS# to anyone! Oh & by the way, my dad got another one of these fraudulent letters, AGAIN a few days later. Be careful people! A lot of fraud out there!
Got a letter from Walmart with Synchrony Bank as the creditor saying I needed to complete processing of my Walmart credit card ( I never applied). The number is 800-480-0186. I immediately pulled a free credit report at annualcreditreport.com and sure enough there was a Walmart card opened 4 days ago from Synchrony Bank.On my credit report it showed a number for Synchrony that is 1(866)396-8254. I called this number and it seems like a legit number.... I'm on hold now waiting to speak with a representative.
