~ Central NY ~` We have gotten calls from Several of these numbers lately. Some were supposedly legit #'s and some were supposedly bogus. ALL were suspicious and they came in on our fax line. They ALL are blocked now. American Express (A.E.) is not doing a very good job of customer service at all, and they have not (nor have any other business) done anything effective to pressure the TeleCom companies to stop allowing the use and spread of "spoofing". This is a Very BIG reason We do NOT use A.E., .. for ANYthing at all! The phone companies control this feature. It's their equipment being used for this criminal activity. THEY should be held responsible! However, They will not do Anything about this unless they are pressured enough to fix the problem they have created. (Kinda sounds like our government, huh?)`` Last fall Slim posted his message here. (Thank you Slim for your time and research. It has helped Many of us who frequent these pages regularly.) PLEASE, take the time to read it, again if you have read it before. The crap on This particular # has been going on in here since 2007 and fills over 16 pages!`` ANY number may or might not be a "legit" number. Even If the # is legit, the Call might be bogus and a spoofer is being used to Generate that #.` If a call IS from A.E. and you have Never even had one of their accounts, call A.E. back ONLY on their Official 800 number, the one on the back of their card. (I do not have it, so you'll have to get it from someone who Does have one of their cards.) YOU may not have created the account in question, ... but some low-life, pond-scum, THIEF MAY have done so, ... using Your info. A legit call from a legit A. E. telephone #, just might save your bank account. You may not even be aware of this unauthorized activity unless you are VERY diligent about checking your credit information regularly. This is how identity theft works, ... it hides in the depths of the background of your existence, until it's grown itself into the very fabric of Your life, and it's then too late to protect yourself.` If you get a call from American Express (or anyone like them) saying they, "have a matter that requires your immediate attention", Call the OFFICIAL Number for that business and find out what is really going on. NEVER, I repeat, N-E-V-E-R (!) call back to a number given to you over the phone or Internet communications, ... EVER! Call the business back yourself, on their OFFICIAL Telephone number, and get the REAL low-down on your situation, "right from the horses mouth", so to speak, in a call You have initiated, on a number You have verified as legitimate.` Why? ANYone can call you and Pretend to be somebody else, or give you a Phony call-back # where Their cohorts are waiting for their next victim (you). So PLEASE, beware. If you do fall for these lies, I'm sorry for you but, You should have your phone-answering privileges removed, .... permanently, for your own safety. You have become prey for all the scamming crooks of our world to feed on, at least until you and your money are parted, which will be soon, I'm guessing. (You remember that old saying, right?)` Please do not fall for these crooked scammers. Those of you that do are the reason why the rest of Us keep getting these calls on Our phones. The scammers are looking for More suckers like you. If you are going to be allowed to answer your phones, get educated on the risks and perils these Scammers and crooks pose to you and the rest of us, and how to prevent yourself from becoming that victim. Please?
3 or 4 calls a day after I have repeatedly told them it was a wrong number. I DON'T have an American Express card. Each time they say they will take me off the list.I filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission
I just received this call on March 26th, 2015.It sounded like an Asian male voice asking for my wife's name, "This is a call for [my wife's real first and last name!]", and then an immediate switched over to a recorded, deep male voice, "Please call American Express for an urgent business matter at 800-592-1160.".So the phishing continues, over five years after this was initially reported!! AMAZING!
Just got a call from this number on my cell, no name attached. I ignored it and no message was left. If the caller was AmEx it would surely be identified along with the number on the caller ID. Neither my husband nor I have ever had an American Express account. Obviously a scam... I'm tempted to call up and yank their crank!
I have received several calls and had a great time messing with them. I have also reported the call to AMEX and they have no idea why they were calling as I do not have an account either.
They have called twice within the last hour / will not leave a voice mail. As a general rule I do not answer a number I do not recognize. If they won't leave a message...perhaps not legit?
My fiancé just received a call from this number, as well. Has never had an AmEx card. This is most certainly fraudulent. Not returning the call, no one should with all of the scams that go on today.
