No. It's not a scam. They ask that you have your loan number ready for YOUR protection. They have to verify that they have the right person.

Why don't you call WF at the provided number to see if they are trying to reach you or not. Their number is locate on your bill and/or online.Other than that, just pay your mortgage and if they call back, then you'll know if it's a scam or not.

THEY ARE PERSISTANT! I SAID HI AND THE GUY SAID LET ME GIVE YOU MY NAME AND NUMBER THEN WE WILL GET STARTED. GET STARTED WITH WHAT? I DIDN'T ASK FOR ANYTHING. MY MORTGAGE IS NOT EVEN LATE FOR 4 MORE DAYS!!! I PAY ALL MY LATE FEES, PAY THE PAYMENT EVERY MONTH, WHAT ELSE DO THEY WANT IN AN ECONOMY THAT SUCKS?? This number IS Wells Fargo Mortgage.It is their collection department. They call anyone who is late with their payments.They call every day until you are current.They never leave a message.

The number is valid. They called me and started asking for my personal informtaion. I thought right away that they were a scam. The caller was very rude so I hung up on him. I then went online and checked my accounts and I found that my payment was late so I paid it.I just wished they called me when my payment wasn't received on time and was nice about. There would have been no reason to turn it over to collections. It wasn't as if I meant to not pay them and I had the money. Makes me wish I never did business with Wells Fargo and I won't in the future.

Yeah, they call me too. Everyday. several times a day. I used to answer and got hung up on. Now I take a peak at the phone when it rings, and if I see it is them calling, just ignore it. Their scare tactics won't work on me.

SCAM! Do not call. If you do have a WF mortgatge, look up & call that # directly.They just left a message on a university's tech support hotline. I think the # that the call came from was 800-678-7986The message: "this is Amy from Wells Fargo calling about your mortgage. Please call 1-800-848-9862."Not likely our IT dept bought a house.

The call is from Wells Fargo & they usually DO NOT leave a message. IF you are lucky & they leave a message - all it says is to call back & anyone who answers can assist you <--WHICH IS NOT TRUE!!! I've been making calls to them for over 5 mos. now to try & get a "deed in lieu of loan" processed, submitted all the required paperwork, then told I must wait 3-5 business days, then call them back & they give me a # to call back. I waited over 15 business days to call them back & when I did I still got transferred to so many different departments, each NOT knowing what the other has already done/processed; then told it will take another 30-45 days to 'review' my paperwork again!! Some guy named Brian Rettler (?) called me one day to discuss my case, yet, admitted he didn't have my file in front of him yet HE KNEW that I didn't complete the correct paperwork; told him I remember talking to him a few months ago & he said he didn't know me, never talked to me, yet HOW DO I & MY REAL ESTATE BROKER KNOW HIS NAME? I looked on my previous phone bill & there in black & white was the call I received from him months ago!! He was not very nice over the phone & started demanding that I give him a fax # first thing in the morning so he can fax me the correct forms; I just gave up & am waiting for another 'pleasant' more knowledgagble person to call me saying they have ALL of the paperwork I've submitted & things will be processed immediately!!!
