I called back the number after getting 5 calls in the last 2 days. They never left a message, and I was getting fed up.The woman I talked to sounded unprofessional and asked for my SIN #. When I said I am not comfortable giving it to her.She said she would put me on hold to see what was going on.She acted like she had know idea what the number was....when it was the freakin number I called that got me through to her.......something very starnge and wrong going on
I've had many calls from this number but they're calling a number I don't use. I don't even know what it is. I have one of those package deals with call answer, call waitng, etc. and the package was cheaper than the individual ones I wanted so I took it. I never bothered using the caller ID which is what this number is for. It's not listed, yet a collection agency routinely calls me there, and I've had many calls from 800-931-1026. I don't answer that line and it doesn't take messages.I'll try and find out, though. I just started work as a tax prep so somebody at the office will know.
Thank goodness for this site, but how can these scammers be stopped before they do damage to others? I've been getting calls, but the one time did answer, the guy said "hello" before he was prematurely cut off and the call went dead. Poor auto-dialing/spoofing hardware/software?I called the number and talked to a Revenue Canada agent (or so he says). He says they need the SIN to open and view any account. He also says if they don't reach you within 3 tries, they'll contact you via mail. I'll wait for that since there doesn't seem to be any way of verifying the person on the other end.
I have been getting calls from this number for the past month and each time I answer there is no one on the other end. I called them right back and I got the same recording...please have your SIN number ready. Obviously I did not give it to them, however, I went searching on the Canadian Revenue Agency website and did a search with this number through their "Contact Us" section...and as I suspected this number did not exist. I am contacting the Revenue Agency number tomorrow at a different number that was listed on their website and I will advise them of this issue and hopefully they can confirm if this is legitimate. I know I do not owe them any money, so I cannot understand why they would need to reach me. I will keep you posted shortly.
We got this 1-800-931-1026 called too. asked for my husband's Sin. We don't know what's going on. They claimed that's revenue Canada. very suspicious.
It's the collections department from Canada Revenue Agency. I questionned the person who called me. He was very polite and provided his full name and 1-800-O-CANADA number to verify that they are indeed from Canada Revenue Agency. They work until 11 PM Eastern Time which is why it's possible to receive a call after normal hours. If you're sure you don't owe back taxes, they're probably trying to reach someone with the same last name as you or someone who had your phone number previously.
the number may be legit but these people who are using it are not!when the government does call they already posses your info and will not ask for it over the phone unless you are trying to access your account. Not vice versa,in short youwould have to call them.
Sorry, but you're wrong. It's CRA calling to collect on back taxes. I called back the number (after verifying with 1-800-O-Canada) and I asked the agent if it's normal for them to ask for verification information if they are calling. The person who answered said that they still need to ask for verification information, even if they are calling, to make sure that they are speaking with the correct person and not divulging your personal tax information to just anyone who answers the phone. Do your homework before posting uninformed comments. Call 1-800-O-CANADA (which is a government number on a government website AND in the Blue Pages) to verify the legitimacy of the phone number and ask the person who answers if it's normal for them to be verifying info if they are calling out.
I am on the phone right now, and talking to revenue canada agency as I type. They say that they would never call you to update your information, nor would they ever use a number you can not reach through their website to call you. They say it is a fraudulant number that does not exist in their agency. They are suggesting that if you get this number to please call another part of their agency called PHONEBUSTER 1-888-495-8501. They asked that you please report the number and do not answer the 1-800-931-1086. They also suggested contacting your local police and telephone server and give them the number as well.
