I got a call too. I did not want to verify my information. I asked that they send me a letter. Around a week later, I got a letter in the mail from Revenue Canada....I guess it was them...
Sorry but you are WRONG!I spoke to legit CRA rep and they told me they would never call just to verify your info. They would call about other matters and would then ask for your info to verify who you were, and they would have no problem with continuing the verification by mail. Also they would not hang up or begin laughing when questioned about their authority. Fraud,Fraud,Fraud.
Same thing here. They keep calling my number which is ONLY registered with my business. They call at ridiculous times, such as 8pm, mostly hang up, but there was a couple of times they left a message saying I could call them back from 8am to 11 PM, that's right, our wonderful goverment is working until 11 at night. Hahahaha. RIGHT.I actually called CRA twice and they were extremely surprised that I am getting calls and asked me several times if I was sure its them. I asked them to put a note on my file that I have been called (just in case its some "other" department), but guess what? Today I had another call from this cursed number. What really troubles me is that how easy it is for scammers to obtain information such as business name, phone number, owner name and so far. Govt of canada is doing a very poor job of protecting our info from unauthorized parties. This applies to consumers as well, as I see most of the complaints here come from regular people.
I've recieved a call of this number 1800-931-1026 this afternoon. I should know this is a scam but I was told the call is from CRA and asked my address and date of birth and subsequently I was told to hold the line for a while. I realized it is a spam after a long waiting. I am wondering how can they be like this. I posted this message here to let folks know do not recieve the call from this number or you will be the next victim.
I have been receiving a call from this number for a long time now, but when I answer it I don't hear anything, it is like it is waiting for me to say Hello a couple hundred times, although, I thought it might be those calls that have a message service asking you to press 1 if this is the right person, but the message doesn't start right away, it is always delayed. Finally, I decided to block the calls from that number, hope it works
Received a call from 800-931-1026....a few actually (I was lazy in returning the call) EACH time a message from Revenue Canada was left (along with my identifying GST#), along with a (different) call back number. That said, I can ALSO believe that a scam is "spoofing" the number....as others have mentioned, Revenue Canada would have no reason at all to ASK FOR your SIN, or any other personal details. When I called back the person I spoke with with clearly bi-lingual (French and English) but totally and completely professional and pleasant...
I got calls from this number couple of times. Did not pick up. They didn't leave a message either.
I've had several calls a day for a few days now from this number. I don't answer the calls cause it's an 800 # but they never leave a message and when I phoned back it said I was being connected and that long distance charges would apply. I hung up right when it said that cause I didn't want to be charged the long distance. If it's a money owing issue that is important, they would leave a message. Even it's an automated thing at first, that would be left on your machine, or part of it anyway. Hmmmm...
Our home has been recieving calls from this number for a very long time.Like many months !! We have never answered because we are wary of numbers we don't know. Well this morning I got a call from a 604 495 5300 and it said GOC GDC on my call display...so not even thinking about the 800 931 1026 # I googled the one from this morning and it brought me to this website. I am thinking that the two numbers are obviously connected. After reading through everyones comments here I am deducing that this is in fact a scam and am actually going to answer the next time they call...lol just for fun ! FTR I would NEVER EVER give out my SIN. In fact when I was married several years ago and had to update my SIN with my new name I was told at the government office to actually put my card in a safety deposit box and to never ever give out the number to anyone. (Except of course if I am the one calling)
