I got called 4 different times by this 802-949-8989. By the fourth time I was really irritated so I picked up. They spoke English very poorly & with very thick accents. The guy I spoke to, Daniel, had a very heavy Indian, (not Native American) accent. His employ # is SE037. The company name is called Select Benefit he said it's market research & that they got all my info, name, # & address from a survey that I did. He said they are based out of Phoenix, AZ. He was said that I won a $500 gift card to Walmart because of completing a survey. I did do a survey that said I could win a $500 Walmart gift card so I bit the bait. They said that all I had to do to get my gift card was pay the shipping and handling for it which was a one time only fee of $4.95. That has never shown up on our credit card & I haven't received the gift card yet, but 2 other small charges from their subsidiary companies have as well as promotional stuff in the mail from those other companies. They automatically sign you up with those other companies and if you don't call and cancel when you get their stuff in the mail they will start charging you $14.95 a month. I also spoke to his verification manager, who had a very heavy Australian accent.
so......I'm not sure but I would lke to believe that anyone that recieved the call or txt could call your local prosecuting att. and Persistantly/constantly demand that it be investigated....They will but you have to be persistant...I would asume that if it is a scam....They should beable to find the originating point of these calls and txt.....When they do...the ppl involved will be charged..I do however, also believe that there wont be any restitution or free ipads because.unless you DID lose something whether it be money or whatever; then the crooks only Attempted to cheat you and you would be nothing more than a witness that wasted your time and efforts that at the end of the day still can only dream of owning one those awsome and unaffordable devices. one more thing....the txt seem to be from similar 4 didget numbers that metropcs uses to remind you of a bill.. if infact the txt did come from a metro number..scam or not metro would probably be legally responsible to provide them. hope I could help.
You don't ever EVER give out your credit card info over the phone like that. I don't care what they are selling or giving away. If you are smart you would cancel that card or claim it was stolen so you get a new one. You are lucky if all they charge to it is $14.95. You won't ever see that gift card.
i just got a call today, too, but i didn't pick up. i had gotten a call similar to this from a different phone number several months ago. stuff like this pisses me off.
