Woman left message to call her back at this number extension 780-917-9053 Said her name was Tania or Tamra, had some trouble understanding due to her very strong Asian accent. Claimed to be Service Canada but when I took this number into my local Service Canada office they do not recognize it as being legitimate.
Legitimate Service Canada 1-800 number callerID spoofed, these scammers need you to answer, press one or whatever to speak to an agent. Calling back will get the real agency, so no scam unless you do the press one to speak to an agent when you get the call.
CRA and Service Canada are two different branches of government that really dont have anything to do with each other. Service Canada provides various services such as EI, CPP/OAS, TFW program and many other things. So calling CRA to verify a call from Service Canada wont really do anything.
This is Service Canada. After receiving the phone call from the 1-855 number, I called direct to the Employment Insurance number (1-800-206-7218) to confirm. I asked the agent on the line to check my claim to see if a call had been made regarding my EI claim. He confirmed that there had been several calls made to my number. So, I called the 1-855 number back and the personal information she required was my birthday and my mother's maiden name. The rest of the information she asked was specific to my claim. In other words, nothing she could use to commit ID fraud etc. IT APPEARS TO BE LEGITIMATE. I then told her that she should let her supervisor know that there is suspicion regarding this number online and perhaps they can make it clear to Canadians that the 1-855 number is legitimate.
Yes I have been hounded by a woman who leaves this call back number. She wants a copy of my passport, driver's license and has told me I don't qualify for OAS if I didn't live in Canada for 40 years since my 18th birthday. (not true) I looked up info and it appears to be 20 years, and I fully qualify. Private Caller shows up on the phone when the call comes through.
Not a scam at all.... this is a legit number and these are actual federal gov workers. not sure where you got your information that they were a scam but I can GUARANTEE they are not
this IS a scam, a guy called Hadida called me, ...I called Service Canada on 1-800 #, and they had NOT been trying to reach me, told me to beware, it was NOT a legitimate call!!!
I just wanted to add: if you don`t response, it won`t just delay your claim. If you quit your position and then fail to provide us with enough information to prove just cause, then there will be a disqualification on your claim and you will be notified by letter that you were denied. Then you have to go through the appeals process to have the decision reversed. If the issue is availability or related to availability, such as self-employment or training, then you will be disentitled from receiving benefits.
Just want to clarify our fact-finding policy so there's no confusion. If the phone number is out of service, we will send a letter. If your voicemail is full, we will send a letter. If you answer the call and refuse to verify your identity, we can't tell if we actually spoke to the claimant, so we will send a letter. If we reach your voicemail, we will leave a message. Then we will make a second attempt and leave another voicemail, if necessary. Each of these voicemails are considered contact. That means that, following these voicemails, we will complete these work items on your claim. This means that you will likely be denied benefits if you fail to respond to our voicemails. The reason I say likely is because it's possible you have enough hours on your claim to establish a claim outside of a contentious Record of Employment, but chances are the disqualification or disentitlement will stop your benefits completely.
