I just got a call from some [removed:lang] named Ray at 855-269-9628. I didn't answer the call so he left a message, saying that He is tired of wasting his time and resources on me, and that it was in my "best interests" to call him NOW!" We don't owe anyone a single penny, and are not behind on any debt, so after a few minutes of getting really angry about this, I called the number back. Of course, nobody answers (proof of a scam), but I ripped "Ray" a new one. Then I proceeded to report this to consumerfinance.gov This is the place you need to go in order to file a complaint about this number. The government will contact these [removed:lang] and tell them to back off or face charges. I learned as well that for it to be a genuine debt collection call, you would have had to receive a letter from the agency, listing the amount of debt you owe, what the debt is for and who you owe it to. Without that letter, they are breaking the law in contacting you!! Make sure you go to consumerfinance.gov and file a complaint! I'm also going to try and file a complaint at the BBB. I'm sick of this crap!
The fake debt companies, pre litigation companies, payday loan thieves, lead generators make up a 32 billion a year crime. Do not pay them any money whatsoever. If it were a legitimate business they'd abide by the FTC laws and not risk the legitimacy of their business by illegal practices of harassment and or intimidation of a consumer. Report them and when you do let this community and others know about it.These types of fake companies and theft thrive in the dark. They literally bank on your not knowing what's up. They hope you do not know your rights. If they purchased bad debt they did so at their own peril. Know this - You will not be arrested consumer! You will not go to jail. Your consumer protection bureau will tell you that. Even if you had several loans or incurred real debt, you don't owe a fake pre litigation or collection company. It's those companies not you that committed fraud.Of course if you have real debt you would want to pay that debt to the original lender where possible. And you should talk to the original lender directly to come to an agreeable solution before a loan or debt defaults. However that said, caution is needed here because you should Never negotiate with a fake or illegal entity. Those companies are ruining the lives and livelihood of countless consumers unawares.Thankfully the "Apollo Nida" Federal investigation is throwing light on the types of illegitimate companies and schemes that are setting up internet store fronts and shops to obtain customer identities and propagate massive fraud. Because of his role on Real Housewives of Atlanta the case is getting nationalized. It is just the tip of the iceberg. The Feds and various agencies are freezing assets and collection efforts across the country. Google it and look at the state of NY as an example. Help is on the way for consumers who are already struggling in this tough economy. It's your duty as a consumer to report early and often. God Bless!
I received the exact same call. When I called back....the message said it belongs to a Christopher somebody. Wow...scams are something else. Gave me 2 days to call back or else (same wording as above). They called my home voicemail....they're stupid because I don't even use that number as my main form of communication. They just randomly are calling numbers!
