You are very foolish to give any stranger any personal information, whether true or not. Don't answer scam calls at all. They know more than you do and can make your life miserable. Look at your Caller ID and listen to your Call Screening... scammers usually disconnect. Don't block the number, either, or they will just spoof another number, and it will start to resemble whack-a-mole. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't. Then come here to validate your decision to not answer. Don't mess with these schmucks, they're predators.
This number calls me every other day it seems. Numerous times. I always let it go to voice mail. They ALWAYS leave an automated message telling me "Please press one now" and that it's my "Final Notice".I wish it was my final notice because I'm sick of them calling.
Bad decision! It's no skin off their nose if you engage them, but I can guarantee you that if you piss them off, they will escalate to show you whose [***] is bigger. They will sign you up for all kinds of catalogs including pornography, share your number with other scammers, and your phone will drive you crazy. Is it worth taunting them for a moment of lowering yourself to their level? Because it will come back and bite you on your butt. Don't pick up. Check your CID and eavesdrop on your Call Screening. Between them both, you can usually tell it's a scam call. Then come here to validate your decision. The calls will diminish. I would also suggest you enroll in Direct Marketing Association for junk mail addressed specifically to you. The Do Not Call, run by FTC, is useless when it comes to scammers, because the scammers are outlaws, and because the main job of the (government) DNC is to use your taxes for self-perpetuation. DMA is worthwhile, though, because they are private and do want to help... it can reduce solicitations up to 78-80%.
about reducing my interest rates and that time is running out on this offer. We receive several calls a day every day. I never answer. This has been going on for about 1 yr.
Ohboy, are you ever wrong! If you "take the call" and shout or cuss at them, they are gonna get even by sharing you're number with other scammers and catalog companies. They're criminals, they don't stop just because you cuss.... LOL! There is EVERY point, as you put it, in them calling you again! To harass you, stupid! They are NEVER trying to really sell you something: they are trying to scam and predate you. And if you yell or cuss, they will escalate. They will not only keep calling with new spoofed and phished numbers on caller ID, but they will increase the number of calls AND share your info with other scammers, too. If you pick up, or press "1," you've let them know you have a working number and are stupid enough to engage them. If you yell or cuss, they know they have upset you! The only thing you're right about is that reporting them to the government is useless. Therefore, it is up to you to learn how to keep yourself safe and reduce the scam calls. And trust me: it isn't by cussing at them, which will only make them laugh at you and share your number with other scammers. How naive can you be?!? That's EXACTLY what they'll do: keep calling you! AND they will disseminate your number to others. Good grief!
