Rec'd a call from 800-221-5006. Looked it up on the I/N immed. Came up as 866-221-5006, WSECU. Called them back. Yes indeed from my credit union checking on a couple $1.95 charges made on my card. Just asked the last 4 digits on the card. Based on a call I'd made earlier today to wsecu regarding the same, this call is totally legitimate.
The number is legitimate; the fraud service for WSECU Visa cards. The computerized voice read a transaction that I had made and I confirmed.
Got a call this morning and called them back and yes they identified themselves as Fraud division of WSECU. I didn't like the questions, so I opt'd to go to the CU. The card in question was an old card, no long valid (which was cancelled due to activity I could not verify). CU told me to disregard as it didn't affect my present card. Done right? NO...got another call from the 'Fraud' folks again..called them and too many questions..which they should know. I explained it all and again opt'd to go into the CU, which I will do in the morning. What is interesting is the person I talked to both times had a heavy accent..not that some employee might not but..! Then I looked into it further. There is a warning issued by WA State AG's office about calls and texts from some bad folks. I don't know who the hell I've been talking to now. They asked to verify my last 4 of my SS..if they get that, the rest of the numbers can be found. Jus sayin... So, I would suggest being very careful. There must be a better way for them to verify things and make us feel more comfortable.
It is the WSECU fraud department. I'm on the phone right now waiting to speak to a supervisor. The main problem is the caller ID. Or lack thereof. I'm like you I won't answer an unidentified number. So I'm listening to really horrible screeching muzak. Waiting. . . . I'll put up a new note when I'm done.
It's completely understandable that your transactions might get flagged due to your travel habits. However, I get flagged if I purchase something online in the a.m. and them happened to go out into the real world to buy a pair of shoes at a brick and mortar location. They stop the transaction. Which is BS because I didn't hear my cell ring. I thought maybe I'd missed my credit limit. Which would have been a fraud since I new I wasn't tapped out. I advised them they need to put a NAME on the phone number so help us feel more secure.
That WSECU's Credit Card Fraud Prevention line. It's really them, but maybe check your account for unusual activity before calling back.If you get a real person, they shouldn't be asking for your card number - I'm pretty sure they verify your info by other means - but if you call the number, you get an automated system that you need to enter your card number into before you can proceed.
calls a few times a day, left only 1 message claiming to be WSECU & saying recent activity showed a possible fraud from the card
This is a legitimate VISA service on behalf of WSECU. It's an automated system that triggers an alert when it detects unusual activity. It creates a case number and then calls you about it to confirm the activity was authorized.I got an automated call from this number this morning because of some declined ATM withdraws I'd attempted last night. I was trying to pay rent and buy a bed in the same day, but I'd reached the $500 ATM limit. I called the number back and entered the case ID#. It described the type of card associated with my bank account, then asked for my zip code and last 4 of SSN. The automated system read off the amount and location of each declined ATM withdraw then had me confirm that I authorized them.I'm guessing it would have eventually frozen the card if I didn't call back and more "unusual activity" triggered another alert.
