This was a legit call from WSECU's fraud protection services. I had just charged a purchase from an online store based in India, so they obviously flagged it just in case (I received the call literally about 2 seconds after I finalized the purchase - good to know they're on top of things)! You can either put in the case ID number (they leave a voice mail) or your CC number, then you verify your zip and last 4 digits of social security. Select an option to say whether the charge was allowed or not... these guys have saved me from a real case of fraud before so I'm glad they check.
I returned the "866" call and I still am skeptical that theCSR was actually verifying a Visa transaction from a recent online purchase on my WSECU debit card.....who really canknow for sure any more what's legit and what's a greedy rip-off?I am ready to abandon my computer and cell phone to once andfor all STOP being hounded by capitalistic parasites......perhaps,I will bury my social security cash benefits in a Mason jar in myback yard so I know it all belongs to me!!
Been call by this number many times as I have used my card in Canada, Australia, France and out of state. It is always legitimate. Any strange activity, anything out of your normal spending gets flagged as possible fraud. It is annoying sometimes, as they have on record I spend in Canada quite often, but I am always appreciative the are on the lookout. If you are going to be out of your usual areas for a while, like 3 weeks in Australia, it's best to give the bank a call and they will put a note on your account that you will indeed be spending money there. The calls have always been a recording, never an actual person asking for information. You need to phone them back, and have the option of using their automated system for authorizing the transactions, or can speak to a human. If you do not get back to them asap, they will indeed freeze your account, which can be remedied by calling your bank. Unless it's the weekend, then you are stuck, unless you have another person with a card from the same account that can be used, as they have different numbers.
