I received a call that I had purchased a Macy's gift card. They wanted my address and they also told me the last digits of my credit card. I cancelled my card.
I received a call from this # and they left a message stating that an order was placed and they wanted to confirm it was actually me who placed the online order for Bloomingdales.com and left me the order # to reference when I called back. I called the # and was very hesitant to give any info. They asked for minimal info. My home address type of info. They told me a purchase for $969.25 had been placed on my credit card. They had my true billing address but the shipping address was not me. They gave me the last 4 digits of my card # (which was accurate). I told them that I would take it up with my credit card company as I was still skeptical. As it turns out there was another fraudulent charge the day earlier both for Bloomingdales.com. I cancelled my card and thanked Bloomingdales for alerting me to this issue so quickly! It was NOT a FAKE call and I am very happy I did not ignore the message in the first place. I recommend taking this seriously but only work with your credit card company in regards to giving out personal info.
I recived a message from someone Claiming to be from Macy's.com's credit billing department. The caller stated that the were verifying an order that was made on the morning of 11/12/11. I know for a fact that I didn't place such and order. The caller left an order number. When I typed in the number in the Macy's.com order tracker, the I found out there was no such order number in the records. I tried to call the number only to find out that the number had been disconnected. I made a purchase about a month ago on Macy's.com using a gift card. I am really annoyed by this. Very unprofessional. I am glad I don't have a credit card with this store, and it will be awhile before I shop there again.
It's a valid number. The company is Macy's and they call to verify that ordered placed using your address/credit card were actually placed by you. They called from phone number 513-398-5221 and left a voice mail for me to call back at 1-866-282-8977 and gave me a reference number. When I called the toll-free number, I gave a lady my reference number. She explained they are the fraud division and wanted to confirm I placed the order. Only thing lady asked me was for my first and last name.Macy's is being pro-active about stopping fraud. So be happy people and stop whining.
Also, they call regardless of whether you have a Macy's card or not ! If someone placed an order using your information and Macy's think the orders are suspicious, they will call.I placed two orders online at macys.com using an American Express card. So I received two calls asking me to confirm I placed the orders.
You should be happy a company cares to call you in regards to something that seems suspicious. The number you're given I was told is not an order number but an internal number when you call back in. Hopefully nobody frauds you and you think they're unprofessional by checking into it.
Received a call from a different number who said they were from Macy's and should call the 866 number and verify some info on an order placed today. As I did place an online order for a gift card, I called the 866 number who said they just needed to know if I actually placed the order as their gift cards are easily obtained by other electronic means. I just told them that I did place the order and that was it. They didn't ask for anything other than my name.
866-282-8977These people called about an order I placed at Macy's.com, but they didn't give specifics in the message. When I called they just wanted to verify details about my order and that I had ordered the item. They are a fraud protection agency of sorts. Never had a call like this from the other dept. stores, or even Bloomingdale's.com orders so I was rather surprised.
I had placed an order online with Macy's. They called and left a message for me to call back and verify the order, with a reference number. I didn't get the message until later in the day and they had already canceled my order since I hadn't called back. When I did call later, they said they do this to verify any order that has a different ship to address than the billing address. They reinstated my order quickly and all is fine, it's just a check to prevent fraud.
