Left a message as "Great Lakes" and then implied that my brother was thinking about suicide and they needed to reach him. I have never been so infuriated.

When these people called Mom, I was pretty pissed so I finally called them back. The guy was actually very helpful. THey had my old cell#, so he called to get a message to me. He was calling to help me so that my government college loans didn't get sent to collections at Sallie Mae. They called Sallie Mae with me, and helped me work with Sallie Mae, whom I hate, so that Sallie Mae accepted the payment I could afford, and helped me to start over with a new monthly payment. They are not collections for Sallie Mae. THey work with lots of companies to help with Goverment loans, and the goverment pays them. I'm glad I talked to them. They are very helpful and understanding. Whenever they call me again, I'll answer.

Great Lakes is a student loan servicing and guarantee company. If they've called you, and you have student loans, the best thing to do is call them back. They will HELP you with your student loan(s). If you are about to default on your loan, CALL THEM NOW.....or let your loan(s) default and deal with collection fees, wage garnishments, ect... Student loans are FEDERAL and if you don't pay them now, you will eventually one way or another and that is a fact. Let them HELP YOU. They are NOT a collection agency. They are a student loan servicing/guarantee company. Their customer service is exemplary.

actually, jimmy d is correct. if they are contacting you, it means your student loan is either behind about to default. they will help you and tell you how to keep your lender from defaulting your student loan. you are stupid if you don't talk to them.
