Not sure what the purpose of the call was... I answered "hello", it "beeped" and then disconnected.
Called me just now, all it said was "Press 1 to hear a message." I refused. They called back about an hour later.
I'm a trucker and receive a message about a job opportunities but I'm not sure if is true or not is an automated I'm not sure how they know my name and that I'm a trucker i have being applying to jobs lately but after reading all these comments I have doubts.
It is indeed an emergency notification system, apparently also in use at University of California - San Diego. On 2 Dec 2013 I received the call at 9:20pm. I had also received separately, at 9:19pm, an e-mail from UCSD Triton Alert about police looking for a stabbing suspect regarding an incident that took place on campus at 7:15. Then later I noticed my nephew had posted on Facebook a link about a recent student attack at the university.I am entering this number to my phone contacts as "Campus Alert" just in case I get future calls.
I received two calls from this number, about a hour apart from one another. It's a recorded message about truck driver job openings.
These boneheads called my direct line at work, my work cell phone, and my home phone. They had my name, and when the call came in to my work line, said a "David Jones" was calling, and gave me options (press 1 if you wanted to hear the message, 2 if no one was there by that name, etc.) I hung up. They left a message on my home machine and work cell to call 866-609-8026 and put in my work phone number to get a message. I think not, I don't know a David Jones. Assume it is a scam of some kind.
Got a call from this number 866-609-8026. It was not any type of university or alert system. It stated my first and last name and said I had a message waiting from a "Mike O'Keefe" and to call back a certain number and punch in a certain code. I don't know anyone by that name. There was an email circulating about calls from "809" area code from the dominican republic and people getting charged outrageous rates, so I don't intend on returning 866-609-8026's phone call. Maybe just change my phone number ;)
I work at a college and we received a call from this number at 11:30 pm on Christmas Day. There was a garbled man's voice and the voice mail lasted for 3 seconds. Did it wake us up? Yes. Will the college hear about it? Yes. I checked the college website and my office and cell phones - it appears there was no emergency.
