I just got this same call, saying I entered a contest last year and my name and number came up for the 25,000 prize.. congratulations. I deleted the voicemail.
It's legit fraud protection just trying to verify recent purchases. They've called a few times in the last year when I make a lot of online purchases.
I got a call from this number and thought "scam" because they referenced an Umpqua credit card that my girlfriend had and (1) I didn't know she had this card and (2) didn't know why they would call my number instead of hers. Well, I still don't know how they got MY number, but it was legitimate. There WAS something suspicious about her card usage, so her card had been stopped pending her callback. She called back and cleared up the issue.
I called the banks diredct number and they verified the 866-707-3915 is the fraud protection service, but was still able to help me at the direct line for the bank. David at Umpqua customer service was very helpful and let me know that is not a scam number.
This is clearly a phishing call. I called my actual bank, and they said that there weren't any fraudulent charges on my account. This number warns that they'll cancel your credit or debit card (they don't know which it is?) if I don't return their call and provide my credit/debit card number. LOL!
Just placed an order online and as soon as I hit the payment button I got called by this 866# but I did not answer it.I looked up the area code and found out it is a toll free number and if you answer it you are the one that's going to be charged.I will call the company I just ordered from to verify my order to make sure it's legit.
Wife received a phone call this morning from this number after finding out her debit card didn't work at the gas station. She called her bank (Sterling) and they informed her that their fraud department was attempting to contact her about seven straight charges from the dating site zoosk. Her card had been suspended because of this. This is a legit number and you should be worried that someone is trying to get unauthorized charges through and steal your money. Those who claim this is a scam are either trolls, ignorant, or scammers themselves.
I received a voicemail from the fraud unit regarding our Sterling Visa Card. I suspected it was a scam so I went online to look up the company. IT IS NOT a scam. My husband had used our debit card twice at the store last night because you have to pay for electronics separately. He then continued shopping and paid for his purchases. This triggered an alert with them. I called back and they verified with my husband, asking no personal information such as SSN, etc. that he did make the purchases. This is just to protect you so please do not ignore them. I am thankful that they do this to protect the customer.
I work for visa fraud prevention services, the calls are legitimate. It is standard procedure when the system detects activity o your card that does not follow your usage habits or if the card was used in another state while being used in your home state. Many of these calls may not amount to fraud but many more turn out to be fraudulent use of your personal info. Always answer these calls. if you are asked for money hang up, visa will not ask for money.
I too got a call from this number today about activity on my card. I called the bank in question and they confirmed they use this service and even confirmed the phone number given to me. The funny thing is the card in question had been closed out for 2 months because my bank was bought out and all debit cards/checks had to be canceled and replaced with the new bank name/routing numbers, etc... I called the 866-707-3915 and pressed "0" to talk to a real person and someone had used my old debit card number to set up monthly automatic withdrawals for a Playstation gaming site. The person I spoke with was understanding and helpful. Although, I have nothing to worry about since the card info the "identity thief" used was closed out last June, had it been a current card they would have saved me from fraudulent charges. Take the time and verify with your bank.
