SCAM: Got a letter from Experian with this phone number, saying a Security freeze was placed on our credit. In the letter they ask you to call the number above, if you want a credit report to see if someone changed your name, address or social. The recording asks you to leave your SS#. There is already a freeze on, which indicates fraudent issues. They are being investigated. Don't answer or bother calling.
Got one in the mail today. 7/7/2013. First number is correct 1888-397-3742 and asks to call 1-877-222-0011 for more information. Creepy.
Thank you for posting this. I just got a suspicious letter and now I'm being even more careful. Scamers are getting very clever.
Thank you. Just got a letter from "Experian" to inform me that "within the last 30 days, change to your name, address or Social Security Number have been reported to us by a creditor.", "If you would like more information about this letter, please call us at 1-877-222-0011". I had my credit frozen for several years and have not applied for anything since then.
Today I received a similar letter stating there had been a change in name, address or SS# and I should call 877-222-0011. I was suspicious right away as my credit freeze has been on for years and I've never received a notification like this before even after failed attempts were made by ID thieves to try changing my mailing address. I figured this wasn't ligit. and reading these posts here confirm the same. Best to always be skeptical and never give out any personal info unless you are the one initiating the call.
TODAY SATURDAY I RECEIVED A SIMILAR LETTER FROM EXPERIAN LIKE THE REST ON THE BLOG .GOT NERVOUS ABOUT IT AND DID CALL THE 888-397-3742 BECAUSE I NEW THAT WAS A CORRECT NUMBER . YOU CAN NOT GET A LIVE PERSON ON SATURDAY . I WAS CONCERN ABOUT THE OTHER NUMBER LISTED SO I FOUND OUT IT WAS A SCAM. ALSO I HAVE A SECURITY FREEZE ON MY CREDIT FOR TWO YEARS .
Received the Experian letter this week. Went to AnnualCreditReport.com and received a free report for Experian. Nothing on my report indicates a change. I did not bother to dial the 1-877-222-0011. I googled the number and it this page come up. Thanks for the information every on. I have a credit freeze on all of my credit reports for over 5 years.
Thank goodness for this site - my mother got this same kind of letter from Experian. What a shame that people feel the need to rip people off.
This was the letter they sent to me. I have had my credit freeze for many years so I knew this was a SCAM. The last two lines of the last paragraph is a dead give away. If I want more information, why would I want to call the number for a recorded message? Why would I need a password? .... LOL!!!Dear ****,In accordance with state legislation and pursuant to your request to have a Security Freeze placed on your Experian Credit Report, we are required to notify you that within the last 30 days, changes to your name, address or Social Security Number have been reported to us by a creditor. If there was an address change, letters have been sent to both your address at the time your report was frozen and to any newly reported addresses. If you would like to view change(s) to your information, you may order a copy of your personal credit report at www.experian.com or by calling 1-888-EXPERIAN (1-888-397-3742).
