Legit call. No scam. (In MY case @ least, I can't speak for everybody). If you don't hear the voice & name of somebody you know, don't accept the charges. That person has a few seconds to say who he/she is before the prompt for payment comes.I ignored the calls at first. Heard the voicemail (which is a continuous loop) about paying for 15 mins. I looked the # up and saw this website where some ppl said it was a scam and others said it was a call from various jails. I answered the next time and didn't hear any name when the inmate was supposed to speak, ("You have a call from "___.""). I did listen for the name of the jail. Got the call again and this time I heard a voice I recognized. It was a legit call from somebody I know who got into some trouble while traveling. My number is the only one the person could remember. The company must have a contract to be the phone service for jails all over the country, hence the various jails being listed. The site www.securustech.net is only to create a profile for calls. It won't really give you information on who's calling you.
It's one company that allows phone services to multiple jails all over the country. You'll have to listen to the call to hear which jail it is. You don't have to accept any charges to hear where the call is from.
Not a scam. Person probably dialed wrong number. My mother is in prison and I got a call from this number. Charges would be insane. Giving them my credit card info or letting them do a credit check for an account doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies. There are also so many other fees that they tack on. I don't know how anyone can afford to talk to an inmate on a regular basis.
Got two calls from this number last night, didn't answer either time nor did they leave a voicemail. Interesting thing about the number they called, it's a company loaner phone that I have had for just over two weeks. There are literally like 7 people that have the number and if they were in jail they wouldn't be calling me as we are not in the same state. This is definitely a scam and anyone leaving posts about a family member or friend calling you is just trying to play on other peoples weaknesses with social engineering.
Just got a call from same number and recording said it was san Jacinto jail... and at that point i did not take call
Called and I let it go to voice mail. The automated voice said "I'm sorry, I didn't understand your response. To accept this free call now press 1."I'm on the FCC Do Not Call list. Wish I could visit the owner of this operation in person.
I have had this number call me four times leaving that same message others are describing. This morning at 5:30. I put number in my contacts and then clicked "block this caller". I just got this new phone - never had this happen before.
Received call from this number - on my cell phone which is on the national do not call list. Left voicemail regarding pressing one to be connected etc....Very annoying and I'm not ok with these scammers bothering or trying to get money out of me! I work too hard to let a scammer get my $$! These scammers need to get a REAL job!!!
