Turns out the # is legit from "Visa Fraud Prevention Services". I usually use my Bank Visa/Debit card as a debit card when I get my gas from the local CITGO. Earlier today, I used it as a Visa instead. The transaction triggered a call from 877-876-4083.

Follow-up: I forgot to mentions that I rarely used my debit card as a Visa in the last few months.

Follow-up: I double-checked with my Credit Union and verified that the number is legit -- it is a number used by Falcon Fraud Protection Service.

I don;t think this number is legitmate. I say this because they ask for your credit card number. The first thing you are always told is to not give out your credit card number. I will call my credit union tomorrow.

Received 15 calls in 30 minutes, never leaves a message. I answered 3 times and dead air ....

The fact that they never leave a message makes me very suspicious. If there were really a problem or suspicous activity on your card they would definitely ask us to call them back as soon as possible. Sounds like some posters here have checked them out and feel they're legit but also sounds like not everyone is convinced. Doesn't make sense that they wouldn't leave such an important message.

Wow, my credit union used to leave messages to call them back to verify charges that were not my signature but this # doesn't leave a message............. hmmm

I empathize w you ............. they keep calling w/ no message and after reading the posts, I don't even want to pick up - nobody has used my card, only me to buy groceries this week so I don't get the umpteen calls....... grrrrrrrrrrr

A few days after returning from vacation, I had a message from VISA fraud prevention/protection leaving their phone number and a validation number for me to use when returning the call. When I returned the call and gave the validation number, they told me the last 4 digits of my card and I was then asked for certain information that I was uncomfortable giving (last 4 digits of SSN and birth day/month). I hung up and called my credit union directly and asked them for the fraud prevention number. They gave me this 877-876-4083 number and then transferred me to it. The same requests (last 4 digits of SSN and birth day/month) were requested. Turns out that this was a legitimate call but I still felt more secure going through my credit union.

It is fairly easy to spoof (fake) the number that appears on caller ID, so just because the number showing on the phone is legit, it doesn't mean that the person calling is from that legit company.I am pretty sure many of these calls are NOT legitimate, particularly if they do not leave any message.It is always best practice to not give out any personal information to someone calling you. You can always find out who they are and get a number to call them back. You can then verify the number is legitimate before calling back (or better yet, if you already have a verified contact number for them, use that instead).
