This is the Census Bureau. I got a lot of calls from this number. The caller ID always said it was the Census Bureau and the messages that were left always indicated that was where the person was calling from. Finally I answered one of the calls. I got the person's information and then checked on the census bureau website and found a phone number for that employee. When I phoned, someone else answered but put me through to an American Census Survey employee who verified some information and asked me to answer some questions they said I didn't answer, or the computer didn't register. All seeems legitimate.
I received a somewhat lengthy U.S. Census Bureau either in November or December 2009, filled it out and mailed it back to them. The form looked and read like it was official and I had no cause to doubt it. Then, on Jan 6th of this year, I received a phone call in my voicemail from a woman saying she was calling from the census bureau, gave me a "case number" to give her when I called her back. She stated she just needed to clarify some of my answers. I called, gave her my "case number" and she proceeded to verify questions such as, my husband and my retirement, our combined incomes per year and the type of home mortgage we have. I just got the "real census" form in the mail today that is much shorter and does not ask anything about our retirement or income. I am extremely upset over this and feel I have been scammed. I can't imagine what they are doing with this info, as the form did not ask for s.s #s or any kind of account numbers.
I did the same thing. I received one in the mail, didn't fill it out, received another letter and another copy of the census. I filled it out, assuming it was legitimate and sent it back. I also got a phone call with a case number, but haven't called them back, and they haven't called me. I'm not sure what I should do. How are they going to use that information? I feel so violated.
Rec'd a call from 888-419-7586, claiming to be from the U.S. Census Bureau as the form we filled out left out information. When we refused to give them the info they became down right nasty, said it was the law. They demanded to know income and questions that I felt were none of their business. So far we've rec'd 4 forms to complete after the orig one that was completed enough, as far as I was concerned. What a waste of tax payors dollars!!!!!!
A call came from 1-520-798-4152 leaving a message to call 1-888-419-7586 with a case # 60432.On Calrk Howard show I've heard about scams. So when I called one guy introduced him self and asks how he can help me. I said I am returning your call then he asks for the case # that he some questions.I said I know that this is a scam. We have already filled and send the form and there is no necessity answer any of the ques.He says in that case someone will call again,I hang up on him saying that I know this is a scam.My concern is there was an initial form in the mail requesting all the details like our income and employment history housing etc. Then I filled out thinking it's the from Census. Then again I recieved a another form only to fill out Name, date of birth phone no etc.I am worried about the first form whether those data is on wrong hands. what should I do
Got a call from 812-218-3144, identified on my caller ID as Census Bureau, asking me to call 888-419-7586 and reference a 5 digit case number. Most of the questions they asked sounded legitimate, but then they asked me my annual payment for property insurance. Thought that sounded fishy.
I would not return a phone call to this number if you are checking it out before you call back. I have had 4 calls from different voices saying they are with the US Census Bureau. I do actually believe I filled out a form sent by these people thinking it was the real census form. I only answered the basic questions as to the number of people in the house and now they are calling back wanting all this personal information and they are telling me they will turn me over to the Dept. of Justice and that the constitution was amended and I am required to give them all the information. I did receive another census in the mail after I returned the first one mailed to me and it was different with a lot less questions. I am worried I filled out a bogus census the first time and now these people who ever they are have my phone number. When I received the first census form I was asking other who live by us if they had gotten their's yet and no one had. I was telling people how long and invasive the form I got was and now...all this is making more sense. The last time they called they refered to the American Community Survey with the census bureau so I am really wondering what this group is. They sound professional on their message and when you talk at first BUT then they will get nasty when you refuse to answer their questions. Beware!!
Hey guys - this is for real. I had a long talk with the census worker and it was clear she had the form I actually filled out. Also, there are TWO forms you may get - a short form and a long form. The short form just counts people. The long form is much more detailed. Do not worry! It's all from the Census Bureau and it's legit. Call the 888 operator to verify if you like. (888) 555-1212
I keep getting calls from the Census Bureau at this number. Thing is, I've answered their questionnaire. They are sometimes haughty, and often very pushy. I'm sick of this! I've gotten several mailings and several phone calls. What the heck more do they want?Oh, and ask for a supervisor, and be put on hold and forgotten. What a waste! Both of taxpayer's money, and taxpayer's life. We do not deserve to be needled forever by these folks.
