Caller said they needed to speak with us about a problem with our shell card. We haven't had a shell card since about 2003 so we figured it was a scam. Caller said her name was Dana, but left no company info other than reference #2000 (an odd & short number) and phone number 888-658-8396. Has not called back again, can't be THAT important.
I got a text message and a phone call from the shell credit card fraud department. I don't have a shell credit card! I want to know Why my number is attached to this???
I received a message from this phone number . Someone had tried to open an account in my name the day before . I was able to deny this action and they cancelled the card. They told me that they are a consumer protection for citi corp and serve several credit cards companies including Macy's.
I received a call from this number about someone opening a Shell account in my name. after reading the posts, I don't trust it!
We received a letter in the mail saying we opened a Shell mastercard. We also received a phone call wanting us to validate our address. The guy gave is this number to call back(888-658-8396), and said it would get us straight to the fraud prevention line. Instead of calling this number, I called the main service line at Citibank and asked to be transferred to the fraud department. They had no record of either this number or the number in the letter, and they said that the account that was opened was not a Shell card but an American Airlines card. It took me half an hour to get through to the correct person, but my advise is if anything like this happens to you, Always go through the advertised customer service numbers either on their website or on your card, and ask to be transferred directly to the fraud department. Never call them back at a number they give you.
