I received the same letter. I called the number to find out what it was all about. They said my departed husband had business with the bank. When I gave them the case number and asked what accounts they were referring to. They did not know, When I thought about it. I realized that the body of the letter was copied and the rest was added in with a different type of font and the envelope it came in was from a different address , Which did not contain the BOA Logo. I will report the fraud to the bank and the SS office. They said they received notice from the SS office.
I received a letter from BOA today regarding my husband's death wanting me to send the death certificate to them at an El Paso TX address, my husband passed away last year and I am just getting this now. Looks fake to me.1. There is no Sr on it and all of his mail has that2. This letter looks photocopied3. BOA letters all have red coloring on themThis also has a case number on it that I have never seen before, but the kicker is we have never had a BOA credit card before at all, nor have we ever had anything with BOA.I say fraud big time, some company wanting to pray on the grief that we are going through. I am glad I know enough to look things up cause I didn't send anything to them. The letter stated that they would make ever effort to resolve the case by June 2015 and if they can't that they would contact me and update me on the status of the case, how you go resolve something that never was.
I got this same letter in regards to my mom's death. It was dated the same day the medical office signed off on her death certificate. I dragged my feet but eventually called the number. They said to send a copy of the death certificate. I again dragged my feet and this morning while I had some time I was going to get this out in the mail but decided to google Enterprise Estate Unit and found your post. Personally I never doubted the legitimacy of the letter until reading your post. It has been over a month since I spoke to someone at the number I called and you would think that since they still hadn't received a copy of the death certificate they would have called back but they haven't. I'm going to call BOA and see what they say.
I also received one on these fake looking letters. My husband passed away about 3 months ago. I have always handled all of our paperwork and know that we had no business with BoA. My lawyer handled all of my legal affairs.Bank of America if this is for real SHAME ON YOU for the way this is being handled. It is pretty low down.
I actually contacted BOA online under online account logged in, with their customer rep. his name was Sid and he directly gave me these phone numbers to call about the account of someone who passed. I did call the number and the man answered told me also to fax or send a copy of a death certif. to a number or address he gave me. I asked exactly what I was supposed to be doing, such as closing the account as there is no local branch near where I am, so the account is still open and has been put on hold, and he said after faxing or mailing a copy of the death certificate someone from the unit would be contacting me as to the next steps to take. I was also worried and searched the number and address and found this post. Now I don't know what I should do -send it or not?
My husband just received a letter from BoA requesting personal info. The address wasn't the normal address that he dealt with and it had this number on the letterhead. Luckily, he investigated and found that it was a fraud used to empty the loved ones bank account after their death. What a nightmare!
I am an attorney who specializes in probate matters. BOA has a central notification department to gather information of decedent's so they can deliver it to all of their various departments. I contacted them directly at 1-877-767-9383. Their address is "Enterprise Estate Unit" PO Box 982263, El Paso, TX 79998-2263. It is not fraudulent.
I just received a letter saying I needed to send the death notice of my husband. He died two years ago and all of that was already settled. When I called, the lady said she was in Georgia when I asked a question about this letter, I must have hit a nerve, she hung up.
Also received 3 letters for my grandparents & mother, who each passed in 2006, 2007 & 2010. The letter re: my grandpa thanked me for providing info about him, whereas for grandma & mom they stated they were informed that they'd passed away. Each letter had a different case #. I knew it was bull because my mother handled all grandmother's affairs after her passing & I handled mom & granddad after their passing. I was informed that no info was needed for my grandpa but they wanted death certificates for grandma & mom. When I asked who informed them, I was told notification came because of returned mail. Two of the letters stated they'd try to handle each case by a certain date, so I told the rep I wouldn't act on anything until/if I ever heard back from them. Still not sure this is a scam but whatever I'm not providing them with any information.
