Received what's probably the same letter that many of you have received from BoA requesting a death certificate for my Mom (who passed away 6 years ago) . . it looked suspicious, like a photo copy. We had closed everything after she died so getting this letter 6 years later seemed very odd. Decided to Google the phone # before I called and it looks like my instincts were right . .it's a big ole SCAM . . thanks for all your posts!

BoA is totally incompetent and they are thieves, not to mention abusive. My mother has been dead almost 2 years for last 8 months I have been trying to get funds from the JTWROS account Iwas joint owner on. They keep lying abt no one has worked on it but they will & call back that day or next. Liars!!! Never call & they are trying to basically steal the $9,000 in that acct that belongs to me. They should be put in jail. So I am calling & reporting them for elder abuse and the state and US Atty offices for attempt to embezzle and direct violation of Fl Statute!!! Hope they burn in hell!!!

Yesterday received the same letter the same info as all the above. A case number is what gave it away if was a FRAUD, and no color on the paper work which Bank of America uses in all their documentation. I will print all the 800notes and take them to the bank Monday morning.This is incredible, my mother passed away just two weeks ago, after having to deal with her death and the government etc, now this.This information must have been obtained from the hospital, funeral home or cemetery, or even the US government.Goof luck to all of you and always search the phone numbers.

Just received a 1099-C from BOA 982236 El Paso TX 79998-2236 for Debt Discharge on two credit card totaling $5653.22. I have never had a BOA credit card and have never had any collection activity from them. They want me to start paying them off. 02-07-2017

Looks like a shill for the scam ... why else would it have come here if it already knew this was a valid number??

My problem with BoA is that there is a reported past due on a credit card I never had with BoA. This is going to be a mess to straighten out!

My mother in law received a letter from Bank of America with this phone number, regarding a credit card account being cancelled that was in my late father in law's name. She called this number, gave lots of personal info to get a card issued in her name, then worried after she hung up. I searched the phone number and found this site, and after reading the comments thought she might have made a huge mistake. All is well though, after two hours on the phone, using the Customer Service phone number on the back of her credit card (instead of this one), we found out that this really is a legitimate phone number for Bank of America's Estate Unit in El Paso, Texas, and the last person we talked to was sure my MIL was talking to a BofA employee when she called this phone number. Just wanted to pass this info on....

Received very suspicious letter requesting additional information to "make sure the financial relationship is handled appropriately ". All signs of fraud 1-improper letterhead 2-who informed them of death? 3-name of deceased incorrect 5-no longer have any accounts with B of A.

It is Bank of America Estate Unit. It IS legit.

This fake letter from BOA POB 982236 El Paso TX 79998-2236 is asking for DOB & SSN warns of an IRS penalty. Scaaaaaam.....
