Scam call many online have received this call supposedly from a Google voice number to fake a confirmation code and get you to provide info for them to steal and use
Hey, I been tracking robocalls for 5+ years and this one appears to be the exception to the rule. When I added another gmail account a call to this number left a code on my answering machine to complete the authentication process.Seems totally legitimate to me.
How do you know for sure that is true. There are way too many spammers out there these days. And why does Google call you when they could just as easier send you an e-mail.

Listed an old TV on craigslist and almost immediately got a text message from 707-709-6589, stating they wanted to talk to me. Texted a 2 digit code to answer a Google call. I immediately got a call from 202-455-8888. I did not answer until I went online to check this out. Glad I did. Scammers!
In the situation some have posted about, I think is an effort by scammers to obtain a Google Voice phone number (probably to use with an autodialer to harass EVERYONE). I posted an ad to craigslist, a short while later I get a out-of-state text asking if they could call (with imperfect sentence construction, but totally readable.) I texted back yes and within a minute I got a call from this number. The recording asked to enter a 2 digit code number (this verifies you want the number THEY are asking for (for forwarding, using your number)). I failed to enter the 2 digit on the first call so I hung up. Then I get a text from the original out-of-state caller telling me what the 2 digit code was. Since I failed the verification process it wouldn't give up (8 calls) so I turn my phone off, then realized I just could have blocked the number. If I ever want to get a Google Voice number, I'll figure out how to unblock it then. So I guess my number was never really temporarily hijacked (I checked). It's likely they are not going to use your number for anything other than getting a Google Voice number for themselves. There is a detailed procedure online on how to take your number back.
