Received a call today and yesterday from "bubbly" Rachel leaving a message saying sorry I missed you, wanted to do a survey, will call back again. Like others of you, this was to my cell phone which I do not give this number out to anyone but close friends and family. I do not answer calls from numbers I do not know. Isn't it amazing that they have our numbers, but when you try to Google their numbers, you can't get any information or you try to call back and there is no such number? Looking at these posts, isn't it also interesting to see that these surveys have been going on back to 2007. Good luck Rachel on your continued quest to get a hold of me for your survey.
Calling me on my cell which is on the no call list. They often tell me they are exempt. I don"t care of they are exempt I'm on a no call list because I don't want to hear from them.
They called me on my CELL PHONE, which I don't give out to ANYONE. (I have a land-line which I specifically use in case it gets on junk-caller lists.)So, how did they get my phone number, why did they call me, and why do they think it's okay to use my minutes answering their "opinion poll".My cell phone number is on the FTC Do Not Call List and I reported them.
Called me today.. using my cell minutes. didn't say anything just waited for the background talking to stop..How'd they get my number? If professional poll takers .. they suck! Ridiculous waste of time
quinnipiac is a legitimate polling company, with some affiliation (i think) to quinnipiac university. as some suggest, they do have kind of a liberal bias (a lot of polling companies have some bias) in the way they pose their questions. although i am not a liberal, though, i can say they are legitimate, not just propagandists, etc. if you do answer their call and tell them "no, thanks," i'm pretty sure they will respect it. that is the best way to stop the calls if you don't want them. they are not pushy or obnoxious.I agree with the general sentiment that it is not ideal that they call people unsolicited and, if you are still in a "minutes are counted" deal, they do use minutes. but basically unless you want to eliminate polling (and it is a perfectly reasonable position to want to do that), polls MUST be unsolicited and random (within sound demographic guidelines). polls done on some kind of "invitation by the person to be polled" basis are worthless, since the person who actively wants to be polled usually starts with their own political bias or agenda. the purpose of a poll, after all, is to get a fair cross section of opinion, from which ... if your sample is big and sound enough, and your analytic methodolgy is good enough ... you can project some kind of more global result.by the way, not all polling companies call cell phones, since the numbers, even on a random basis, are harder and more expensive to acquire. but more and more do, and it is generally believed within the polling business that, since so many people now use cells exclusively, polls done just to landlines are becoming obsolete, in terms of their accuracy. bottom line: if you don't mind polls, quinnipiac is as legitimate as any other. If you don't like polls or don't want to "use your minutes," just be polite and tell them not to call. i think you will find they respect that (unlike a lot of other nuisance callers).
The survey is to get a picture of what people feel about various political and social issues, and I answered it honestly. I've worked for survey companies and while some are bent towards a certain political view, this one seemed evenly divided on all sides. Some of these are important to get a view on what is important to the people, if you don't give your opinion to anyone but your neighbors or friends, your opinion doesn't make any difference in the big picture.
