Got a call from someone claiming to be from Best Buy confirming that there's been an account opened in my name. They proceeded to ask for my social security number to cancel the account and I declined. I didn't feel comfortable giving my social to someone calling me out of the blue. She then persisted and asked for my birthdate. In middle of everything, I hadn't realized that it was suspicious until afterwards. I did give her my birthdate but nothing else. Beware!!! NEVER give your information out if you're receiving a call. Thank them and find your own way to contact the vendor to inquire on any open accounts!
It was a legitimate call from citibank I had applied for a credit card with them then decided I didn't want it
First, she told me that someone was trying to apply for a Best Buy credit card in my name. She said they had the last four of my social and asked for my address so they could send me the form. I said I wanted them to cancel it and they suggested that I transfer to the Citi Fraud protection program. When I said no, she gave me a phone number and a reference number to call back at my convenience.
Just got off phone with Citi to report possible fraud. Then this number calls me back. Did not answer. They did not leave message.
FYI, this was legit. I called BestBuy and they said that someone did try to open an account in my name. I checked my credit history and it has been compromised.
This number called my husband claiming someone apply for a Citibank bank credit card and needed more info. I called back after they had been calling him for pass two days. She (Ava) claim she was the fraud dept and asked for my husband ss# I refused to give it to her so she gave me a phone number and a address in Texas so that I could call or go in person to talk to the manager about my husband acct. I looked up the address and the number and its not in Tx it's in California (800-222-1234)This is all fake there is no such number or address in Tx!!Other number they call you from is 800-950-5114 stating their Citibank and its not.
This is a Citi customer service center that responds to various partner calls such as ATT, Sears, Home Depot, etc. This is a legit number. If you don't pick up, they should leave a message as to what is the topic of the call, and if you are concerned (reasonable in this day) you can call back using the number on the back of your card. In my case, it was regarding a charge dispute I had filed with them. If you pick up and you are not familiar with the account they claim they are calling about, it is possible someone is spoofing the line number. Hang up and call any credit card companies you have accounts with using the number on the back of your cards to ensure you are not mistaken - banks often handle the back-end part of an account for a store account, and the store company may change banks from time to time. However, the phone number on the back of your card should always get you to a legitimate bank customer service center that can verify your account and make sure any problems are properly resolved.
sounds very fishy, stores don't call you to tell you that, cause they don't know its NOT you, I discovered someone tried to open a chase CC in my name by looking at my Credit report...they were rejected LOL, any how I called them up and asked them, they said there was an application filled out they even gave me the address the guy used to get the card..it was the next city over, filled a thing out for my credit reports and they removed it, and I put a 6 months freeze on my credit report
