Woman called claiming to be with Citibank regarding a recent credit card application. We did not apply for one. Told her this is the 4th (fraudulent) such call today of this type...3 from fake Bank of America phony robot calls and now her. She gave me another fake number to call 888-201-4523 which is also a number that is showing up as a bad number. All in all...Citibank needs to get on this. Her last request was "will you provide me with your social security number to verify this?" Not a chance.
You should really check your credit report for inquiries. For me, this number was legit. Someone probably got a hold of your number.
This is a legitimate call from Best Buy. When I did not pick up immediately, they left a voice mail with a reference number. I applied for credit yesterday at Best Buy and then ordered a refrigerator online, so I took a chance and called back the number left in the voice mail. Instead of giving my account number, I gave them my phone number and they were able to look up my account from that. They were checking for possible fraudulent use! I am so impressed and also grateful that they would do this! I DID mention that this number, 210-677-1346, looked suspicious. The caller I.D. should at least say "Best Buy" so a customer knows that it is a legitimate call. Anyway, I benefited for once by talking to the people at a strange phone number. My new frig is on its way!
Caller did not identify themselves. I told them they had wrong #. Called Sear CC to verify. They confirmed call was legit and possible security breach had occurred within 3 major retail stores, so they issued a new CC. Reviewed my account by phone and verified most recent charges were legit. Just a precaution though they issue new CC due to 3 retail stores reporting possible security breach.
I got a call from this number, and looked it up on here, fully expecting to see the fraud warnings. However, the message they left requested I call back using the 800 number on the back of my card. Called the number on my card and indeed the fraud dept had called. They were shutting down my card due to suspicious activity and reissuing a new one. Never asked me for any info other than the automated system getting my card number at the start of the call.
The SCAM here is to hack the caller ID so that a legit number comes up.Then they will try to get you to call a fraudulent number. Here is where they Phish for information!
Citi-210-677-1346 was a valid call from Citi bank advising a compromise of accounts. I verified charges to my account that were valid; they did not ask (nor would I have provided) my account number. They said they are cancelling my card and issuing a new one. Called 1-800 number on back of my card and they verified that security had called me, my card would be cancelled, and I would be receiving a new one.
This is in fact from Citibank. They left a message asking me to call the number on the back of card. When I did call, I was able to confirm the charges they were concerned about. Also when I logged into my account I noticed they put a temporary hold on the card for suspected fraud. Doesn't get more legit than that folks.
