Phone ID is "texas", and whenever I get a call from "texas", I know that it is some scammer calling. If we get one scam call, we seem to get at least three calls, all within a short period of time. Same bunch of criminals, who just happen to be running a numbers of different cons (with a variety of spoofed numbers). We don't answer the phone, block as many numbers as possible, and all it does is slow down the rate of nuisance calls.
got this call today. Read post and also found this "972-289-6043 also his home phone # 214-377-9773 "
Called here, machine answered, did mot leave a message. (as usual) Caller ID said Texas. I am on the do not call list and getthese calls all the time. I really wonder if the do not call list really works.
Caller ID says "wireless caller". I didn't answer and they didn't leave a message. That tells me they are telemarketers. I purchased a "call blocking" device on Ebay that can block up to 1500 numbers. It captures the number that called and now I can press the "Blacklist" button and it will block any further calls from that number. It does so without my phone even ringing. This depends on your local phone exchange though. They have to send the phone number prior to sending the first ring signal to your phone and that is the way my phone exchange works. Others work by sending the ring signal first then the calling phone number. In this case your phone would ring one time because the call blocker has to see the phone number to block further rings. I love this device and it was pretty inexpensive.
Thanks for the heads-up here abotu the fake cruises. I don't answer calls from people/parties I don't recognize, but I appreciate the publicity given this travel scam. They called here just now, and of course I didn't answer. No message.I saw a complaint here that this particular scam artist was calling one of our posters over and over again, and there was no stopping it. Call blockers are getting good, but they only block particular numbers. We need blockers that can be set to block Caller IDs that consist solely of names of states, Out of Area, Unavailable and the like. I'd also like a blocker that will block a particular area code. I know there are outfits such as nomorobo that can do things like this, but we need something equivalent for landlines.
If you don't recognize the number or the caller ID, the it's suggested that you don't answer, Answering only gives thescammers confirmation that your number is valid, so they can call it again...and again....and again.....
I so know what you mean. I have land line too and do not call. Does not work on them either!
