Prince Edward Island. Bell Aliant cell. Got call, no message, this morning.

Got the call, answered in French and they hanged up. It is becoming annoying to get those unwanted calls. Why do they call if they hang up? To check if the line and number exist???

The Do Not Call lists for Canada are limited to Canada, a telemarketer or scammer can buy a number in Canada to use as a "rerouter" or temporary exchange from other countries. They call your number from the US(usually FL or Calif/NY) and can have it setup so that it calls that number first and reroutes the call with that ID. It's a form of masking and these types of numbers are throwaway.So the US telemarketers can get around the DNC registry easily, they don't call from their own numbers directly so as to make blocking them much more difficult. This isn't an easy problem for Industry Canada to solve as these scammer can easily buy up another number.The Internet equivalent is called an Anonymizer which is a services and process used to hide the true identity of the person at the other end. As a matter of fact because many people nowadays are signing up for VOIP(Voice over IP) telephone services this is in fact what is actually happening. You telephone call goes over the Internet and the data is handled the same way. At the moment dealing with this type of call is as hard as dealing with Internet spam mail, the only true defense is to get a "virgin" telephone number and keep it completely private, or to use a disposable phone number, you are not going to have friends and family use that number you can get rid of it every year or so.

They called my cell a few minutes ago. When I answered (which I normally do not do) it was a recording saying I won an all inclusive trip to the Bahamas. It's a scam people.

I got the call too, 11:38. I took the call and nothing, not a word....

I got a call also about 10 mins ago, I didn't answer. with Bell, Nova Scotia
