Them having a third party to remind parties of an appointment is not a release of your health information. They are not supplied with anything that has to do with your medical condition.
Agreed. This is a violation of personal and medical privacy on many levels. But your doctor is probably not going to care about or react to your conniption fit, unfortunately, as many patients do not like this and similar services. Doctors, pharmacists, and others not only do not care, they are within HIPPA compliance when they use this system. It's our government's laws that are not protecting our privacy. HIPPA regulations do not protect your privacy! Protest to your local politician, and keep vocal until you feel your privacy is respected. It may take awhile. Our govenrment will protect us when we, the citizens, make our wishes known. If no one speaks, nothing will change.
I got a call reminding me of an appointment. When I've got a lot of medical stuff going on, I always answer local calls whether I recognize the number or not, because it's often a medical office with a different outgoing number. A message was left on my voice mail, and it was repeated so it wouldn't get cut off. It did not mention a patient name or the reason for the appointment, just date, time, location. Even the instructions were vague: "Please follow all department specific instructions that were given at the time of scheduling." I have no problem with the clinic contracting with an outside agency for appointment reminders. The only info that's needed is the phone number, appointment time, and location. That's certainly within the privacy agreement they have to keep handing me, and I have to keep signing off on. It's all recorded and automated by computer, probably much more secure than having some students come in after hours and make the calls while talking to their friends on another line. (My apologies to students, I was one, but I also worked with some lazy losers.)My only concern is the area code. I'm almost thinking this is a time when I wouldn't mind if they stuck in a local number. I didn't answer and was just lucky the voice mail worked. Sometimes it doesn't.
I received a call regarding a doctor's appointment for my brother who is in an assisted living facility. The doctor's name is one I have never heard of so there is no appointment scheduled.
Received two calls from this number reminding me to send a test kit my doctor sent me to use. It is a legitimate third party company that my doctor's group is using to remind their patients to return test kits sent to them.
