Call received while we were away. no ID. Type of caller?

Call received a few minutes ago. Did not answer since I did not recognize the number. Caller ID said "CALIFORNIA," usually an indicator of a call from a mobile phone. Call went to voice mail. Recorded female voice: "Please hold for an important message. A representative will be with you in less than 30 seconds." Less than 30 seconds of silence followed before the call hung up (no idea if the hangup was on their end or by my voice mail). I'm assuming it's a scam.

Numerous dead calls all day, perhaps a broken robo-dialer?

Calls all day until 9pm day night, no message is ever left. Now is on my blocked caller list.

Noticed all postings thus far were from May 2014. Going to add one for Sept 2014. Called today (Saturday) at 4:20. ID says "California". No message left on machine. Same number called back less than two mins later. This time they did leave a message. It was a real person who said "Hi, this is Jes..." and then they hung up. Sounded like a lot of voices in the background as if they were in a call center.

Sept. 6, 2014 This number called twice today, 5 minutes apart. Did not recognize it so I did not pick up. ID said Los Angeles.

Called Sunday at 5:30pm and did not leave a message. From Los Angeles.

they are scammers whoever they are. my number is blocked on outgoing calls. i received a call from 323-849-0731 at 5:34 pm Pacific Time. i didn't answer and they left no message. i called the number five minutes later and heard a recording that said to press 1 to be put on their no call list. i did as instructed to see what would happen, knowing that my number wasn't showing at their end. the recording said thank you and apologized for the inconvenience.

Just got a call from this number, didn't answer it since I didn't recognize it. Called the number back (on my work phone) immediately hung up. Tried again from another phone it was just dead silence, I hung up. Call is coming from Los Angeles CA.

just got a call from this number. i answered with an introduction since i the number they called is my work number. the lady asked if this was a business, i said "yes a government office". she apologized and said she must have dialed the wrong number. I think it was a telemarketer or someone selling something due to the busy background noise I could hear on the line.
