It is illegal for debt collectors to call past or before certain hours. Find out what your state laws are. Then send a letter to their corp. head quarters with all the documented times of calling and also cc it to the state fair credit... That helped a friend. She hasn't had calls since.... BUSTED PUNKS!
They can call you once more after receiving a cease and desist letter legally. Make sure you send it certified. If they call once more you can take them to small claims court. Which is not expensive. But it will be for them. Also document every time they call. They are legally only allowed to call between the hours of 8am - 9pm. Build a case quickly sue them and take their Money! Also~~ With ATT you can block up to 30 numbers for $3.99 a month... SO WORTH IT!!!!
This is one of many numbers for portfolio recovery service. They are trying to collect a debt beyond the SOL as is their usual practice. Unfortunatily I can only block 5 numbers at a time on my cell phone. I just hang up.
Our digital cable service displays incoming calls on the television, and this number appeared several times in just the last hour. I looked up the number, arrived on this page, and then decided to call them back. I spoke to a "Chayla" and I followed the advice above. It was GREAT! I loved being in control, and I could tell that Chayla was getting flustered. ("May I have your name?" she asked. I responded, "I'm calling to get information, not give it." Chayla's response: "Well, I like to know who I'm talking to." Me: " 'Ma'am' will suffice.") She finally gave me the name of "the person who holds a debt with the company we represent," and it was no name I had ever heard. (I did make her spell it out for me.) It could have been one of my husband's roommates FROM 15 YEARS AGO, but he's not home at the moment! :-DAnyway, Chayla assured me that our number would be removed from the list. I thanked her and politely ended the conversation.
my comments are same as everyone above. they just now called me, i dont answer area codes i dont know people in, and i have no outstanding debts. but i get many calls like this over the past year, from various numbers. i wonder can we all do class action suit or something?
Long as I have a mute button I don't care how many times or how many different numbers they use.
Any time you get a number and called ID shows a city and state it is Portfolio Recover. This time is showed up as unknown name, earlier as Belle Grade FL, Las Vegas NV, Boise ID. They have been trying to collect on a $300 Mervyns bill that I paid off BEFORE the company closed its doors. Told them that and to piss up a rope if they think i am going to pay them again. I bet they have paid their people over a thousand dollars in salary trying to get me to pay. Freaking loosers
