Hi,This number calls my cellphone several times a day, since last month . Did not answer, no messages. I call the number back, it's a recorded message :«Welcome to Scotia Bank. We just try to reach you, but we will call you back. Thank you.». Strange, in general, they offer options ('Press 9 for service in english...') to reach somebody who is actually working for them and who will be able to answer to your questions...Just don't give that person private information; it's very easy then to get credit cards with your name on it...and you will be responsible of it until you prove it wasn't YOUR card. It's really easy to get your cellphone number or your home number, they just try phone numbers then listen to your voicemail messages then call you back. Sometimes they seem to try to pronounce your name, then you ask them 'you wanna talk to Mary?'..'yes, please'...If you don't tell them anything, all they have is your first name...Just say you'll call them back...If they say, no, they'll call you back...it's a scam.Take care.
That's a load of crap, banks NEVER call you on the phone like this person mentions. Don't fall for it and don't give them any info.
Just called the number (416)750-6018 and got the recording ... "this is Scotia Bank, we recently tried to contact you and we will try again later". Is it realy Scotia Bank????
URGENT: This IS a legitimate number from the Scotiabank. I just received a call from this number and a recorded message advising me that my husband's debit card had been compromised. I called our branch and verified that his Scotiacard was indeed flagged by Scotiabank security. Here is what I found out from our branch in resolving this situation:Bank security does not call the branch a customer deals with when there is a problem such as this. They call the customer to advise if there is a security problem. It is then up to the customer to call or visit their branch and advise them of the details of the call from the security department. The branch can then cancel the existing (compromised) debit card and issue a new card. Here's the important part: When I checked our account before calling our branch, I could not see any sign of unusual or fraudulent activity. But, as our branch rep explained to me, we as customers are unable to see what the Scotiabank's security department can see when they are monitoring for or alerted to this type of activity. It could be a merchant has been flagged as possibly engaging in fraudulent activity, and the bank will then contact anyone who has shopped in that store. Or, there could have been attempts to use that debit card, but again, we as customers can't see those attempts when we check our account.PLEASE, do not disregard a recorded message call from this number. It is a common way of contacting customers regarding security issues according to the information I received from our branch. It makes sense as it's faster than sending a customer a letter and the bank does not email customers (scammers do that). Also, scammers don't tell you to call your bank branch.Hope this helps.
They left a message on the machine. It was from Scotiabank just reminding me they sent a new chipped card (which I received in the mail a few days ago) and to activate it asap as my old card will soon expire. Nothing about my account or card being compromised.
Had a call on landline. No message, no ID, nothing to say who or what. Family now checking it out.
I rcvd this call home at 11:18 AM but did not answer and did not rcve a message.checking here I see Scotia is mentioned many times. I checked with the Mrs. and indeed Scotia had called her moments later at her work #They asked if she had recently accessed her account online and yes she had a few minutes prior. Reason being their security people had seen a different ip address as opposed to other online checks previous. It looks to me that this is a legit phone number from Scotia Banks System. Pretty good that they actually check ip addys when doing online transactions.
