Got a call two days in a row. Left the same message saying I participated in a heath and wellness survey and they are trying to get in touch with me about answering some more questions...weirdd
These folks have been calling us twice and three times without leaving any messages, as well. What happen to your FTC complaint? Should I file one or is it just another dead end?J
Called at dinner, answered phone and it was a hang-up call. I called the number from caller-id and it was CareFirst Health Care solutions - the CareFirst branch of nurses who follow up with CareFirst patients who, at some time in their lives, had or have had a relationship with CareFirst. I last spoke with a nurse about my medical issues two years ago and this was their follow-up call. The nurse explained, and apologized that i received a hang-up (which they call, a dropped call). It was honestly for me but technology wasn't kind to my dinner or was I kind to the nurse...
I thought this was just a wrong number. Comes in on a cell phone 3 - 4 times a week which is not the number I use for ANYTHING other than totally personal. They led me to believe they were Legit - Blue Cross/Blue Shield when I called them back. Even went though the trouble to call back and let me know they were working on it and wanted to know the names of everybody in the household. (Yeah, right, I'm going to do that!) When I called back, the same person - Lennet(sp?) acted as if it was a bad connection and couldn't hear my voice.IT'S A SCAM!!!
Recieved a call and they left no message. I called the number back and they said that there name was Access Care Engagement and said that they were calling on behalf of my insurance company, which they correctly identified as Oxford. On pressing the rep further, she said that they do health care education on behalf of my insurance company. I told her I was not interested, as I AM a health care educator. Then she asked for my name, which I gave her - and then for my date of birth. I asked why she needed that and she said that she needed to verify my identity - and she needed to have 3 points of identity. I asked her what else she could use besides my dob - and she said that she could use my address. I gave her my address and then she wanted to transfer me to speak to a nurse so that she could explain the program to me. I explained again that I wanted to opt out - and she said that she would give the info to her supervisor and then she hung up!
I actually called 443-430-7201 and spoke to an individual. I asked to be removed from the phoning list. To do so, I was told that, in addition to my name and phone number, I would have to provide my birth date which I refused to do. I was told that CareFirst is definitely the source of providing them with client names and phone numbers--for health education purposes! After hanging up without providing any additional information, I called CareFirst (the 800 number on my health card). Because the automated phone system is not set up to receive any calls that are not health related it took awhile but I finally got thru to someone and informed them that CareFirst should NEVER have provided Healthways (Caller ID: "Your Health Plan") with client information. It took awhile for the individual to whom I was talking to understand that CareFirst had done this! I told the individual that on the few times that I have answered the phone, NO ONE was on the phone. I also told the individual that I would NOT provide any information to the Healthways folks other than my name and phone number when trying to get off their phone list. The individual contacted the folks at 443-430-7201 and got my name removed from the list--will have to see if the phone calls cease! I asked the individual for an address where I could mail a formal complaint to CareFirst about this problem. I was provided with the following: Mail Administrator; P.O. Box 14113; Lexington, KY 40512-4113. I will be sending a formal complaint to CareFirst -- with a certified mail receipt request to ensure that I have a trace that they received my mailing. I strongly recommend all others who are receiving these calls also mail formal complaints to CareFirst--I think mailing complaints is better than calling them. Maybe the message will get thru to CareFirst that they should have NEVER provided their client information to any company, especially one like Healthways. CareFirst needs to know that they made an MAJOR error and take responsibility for it. Maybe, just maybe, CareFirst will first contact their clients BEFORE doing things like this and get their client permission to do something like this in the future! I can only hope that CareFirst will NEVER do something so STUPID like this in the future!!!As an aside, I have only had ONE success in reporting a telemarketing phone call to the FTC--they usually respond that the call does not fall under the Do-No-Call act!
