Actually, even bins fice debt collectors have to follow some rules, including time constraints.
It's s very complex, tangled information web that includes companies that collect information from all kinds of places and sell demographic lists for a price, plus criminals and scammers that sell or share lists online and in real life to commit crimes. You'd be surprised what they can collect and surmise about us all, no matter how cagey you are.
They already know it's not appropriate time, Kerri... they just don't care. And we shouldn't do any surveys for strangers at any time, ever, anyway. You don't know who they really are, who paid them or who they represent, what they are going to do with that intimate or personal information.
Bernett Research company -- phone number calling is in Portland Oregon, they call on Sundays. Trying the Remove from List but have to see. The "Do Not Call" needs to be updated with no one (even the dumb political parties) should be allowed to call without your permission.
Knew it would be a scam call by the area code and suffix, but because it was a late call, I quickly picked up and hung up, to stop the ringing. Am SO GLAD I came here to see the consistent reports everyone is giving... now I know more about their particular brand of abuse and will ignore the call the way I usually do for other scammers, as well as any number that looks almost the same: I worked for the local phone company long ago, and such numbers (if they are real and not just phished), are called hunting numbers or rollover numbers. Sort of like office extensions. Very few scammers or surveyors call after 9 p.m. at my home, so far, and I really hope this is not a trend. At least this particular company is stupid or stubborn enough to show a CID that is easy to recognize and ignore.
Kerri, that's why I don't block these people, I just ignore the call... as the Irish would say, "better the devil you know, than the devil you don't." Easier to recognize and ignore just one number than a ton of constantly changing spoofed numbers. And also, think about the idea that it might not even be a real, valid survey just because they say it is... we really don't know how any data we share is being used, who they really are, or how far it will proliferate, and whose hands it will end up in. I should think that a real surveyor would call at an appropriate, civil hour because they need our goodwill and cooperation, not our ire. That is a clue that they may not be on the up-and-up... and as a rule, I operate on the assumption that they are all potential criminals. Why people will share personal information on the phone or online with total strangers, when they know better than to open their door in real life and let strangers into their homes just because the strangers knock and ask them to, I just don't understand.
