Absolutely legitimate call from UPS, it sounds like this is their claims department. I work for a company and filed 2 claims, They had all information and did not ask for anything from me.
I didn't answer but they left a voicemail. Someone saying they're from UPS calling about a delivery of LaCoste T-shirts to someone named Jake [***] (obviously not my name. Caller seemed embarrassed to even say it.) Left a call back number and a tracking number which I won't bother with.
I received a call from this number after I reported a package missing. The package was recovered and delivered to my address. The person was calling to follow up and was overly apologetic.I felt a little weird about the call and having given my address to a stranger over the phone so I called UPS a few minutes later to see if someone from one of their departments had called me and they did verify that someone had indeed called me from customer service. So the number is legit UPS, it probably just can't receive incoming phone calls.
There's a lot of conflicting information on this number. Firstly, it is legitimately UPS, as countless other posters have noted. I had to file a claim on a missing package, and they contacted me and provided me all my info at the jump. Secondly, there's nothing wrong with being cautious. It's not unheard of for scammers to spoof a legitimate number and pretend to be that entity. But it's not productive to rubber stamp a number as a scam simply because the caller didn't leave a message or because a call back to the UPS center "confirms" this number isn't in their database. There could be several reasons for that. My guess is that the investigation of lost items gets outsourced to a third party or a completely different branch of UPS, and the general call center might not be aware of this distinction.I'm just saying this because I nearly rejected this number when I glanced at this thread. Fortunately I read a little further in time to answer a legitimate call. So, yeah, absolutely be hesitant in general, but please also try to be diligent too.
Confirmed, UPS package trace department. I reported a package missing days ago, they called with a followup. Was a legitimate call (for me anyway)
This is UPS Brown. They were trying to locate a package that was sent to me but I never received. They know what was in the package and the shipper / date it was shipped. The call back number is 1 866 706 6894 it is AZ.
There are two people lying about this being a legitimate UPS call because they go online to place fraudulent information. This is not UPS. UPS doesn't have this number, UPS would never, ever, tell you what was in a package, THINK. How would they know what was in the box, Even a box sent can be mailed in a television box as long as it's addressed properly. Nobody knows what's in the box and as a retiree from UPS we would never assume or attempt to tell you what was in the box. You people have to use common sense. They are going to tell you, you missed a package and you need to give a credit card number or other form of payment to have the package re-routed back from the company. If you really did have a missed package, go online and get the number to UPS, or hey, here's something, track the package from the website you ordered the package from. Everybody knows tracking numbers start with 1Z. You people deserve to be taken. COMMON SENSE PEOPLE.
It is UPS tracking down lost packages. They called on 3/6/17 at 1.57pm est & left a message to call them back at 866-706-6899. On the message they left me the tracking number & everything. Legit dept, think it just depends on who leaves the message.
