Just got a call from this number and the guy definitely had an accent, and I could barely understand him. The phone conveniently cut out when he was telling me what company he was calling from, so I asked again. He told me he was from goigi.com regarding helping me with my domain and web site. I did just start a new web site, but my phone number is not on there. Around the same time my house number, which is not listed, was called from another number which I googled and got similar scam stories as this phone number. A woman with an accent left a message on the machine just saying "hello?" over and over with noise and talking in the background just like the guy that called my cell phone. Both numbers are also on the do not call list which is very convenient, and I just applied for financial aid as well. I guess they're going to keep calling and cover all of their little scams.
Just received a call from them, didn't answer..... Tried to call back using *67 and got the message that the phone number or code is invalid please try again
Just got a call offering to build a website for $200, seemed confused that I could build it myself. They got my information from a recent go-daddy site I made.
The caller claims to be from some branch of the government, and that youโve been chosen to receive 10 grand, because you pay your taxes and bills on time I couldnโt quite understand what branch of government he claimed to be from - the closest I can get is the US Grant and Treasury Department. When I informed the caller there was no such branch of government in the US, he asked if I knew how to use google. I replied yes, and he changed the subject. He eventually gave me the approval number (AB144), and a phone number to call (202-436-9013), then to ask for a Cindy Spence, in order to receive this number via Western Union, at first he tried to get me to give him my bank account number so they could transfer the money. Obviously I knew this those scams where you give them some money in order to receive a larger sum in return. Although if Iโd been stupid enough to give them my banking or credit card info, they would likely have just drained my account. I was bored or I wouldnโt have messed with the guy for so long. But what ticks me off is how many elderly people, or even intellectually challenged people, and I guess I should add desperate people do they manage to rip off each day. This type of thing needs to be better publicized in the form of public service commercials to warn folks who donโt have the sense to figure it out. Enough with ripping off those, who need to hang on to every dime they have, just to survive.
I spoke with the guy for a while. He admitted to being a scammer from India. He was just trying to feed his family. I told him to leave and find an honest job. Hope he did.
