It was determined some years ago that these people are based in Florida and use call centers in Pakistan or other offshore places. They get shut down for a few days and are back up in no time mostly due to pay offs to politicians no doubt. They use VOIP call centers and spoof numbers so they can't be traced and appear to be in Canada. A documentary show in Canada was able to find them easily even though the police claimed they couldn't. These same call centers are used by reputable Canadian companies like your phone or cable company to offshore their complaint departments so they don't have to pay a living wage, and this is likely where they get your number. They use the same scams over and over. The recorded message is in perfect english exposing their origin, and the callers are always heavy accent Indians. My question is why are credit card companies cooperating with these con artists and allowing them to run up debts on the mark's credit cards? Why aren't the police going the route of investigating through the credit card company to find the addresses of these people instead of just saying we can't trace the number. I mean when the fraud has been done it is at that point a crime, and something can be done by either the police or the credit card companies to shut these people down. Yet nothing is ever done by this route. How come?
I never answer this call. But I know its a scam. I dont answer calls from area codes that no one I know lives at.
Do not accept any calls from this number. If by chance you are the scammers calling, get a real job and leave us alone.
This really is a no brainer. If your phone rings and you either do not recognize the number or it says "private name" or "private number", don't answer it. If you have voice mail, and the call is important, whoever is calling will leave you a message. Same applies to your cell phone. Like I said...a no brainer!!!!
I just received a call from this number and did not answer because I did not recognize the number. Hit re-dial and the number is "not in service."
I get these calls quite often. Who knows where they come from? As others have said probably the best way to fight this is to play along with them and make up phoney information and give it to them and waste there time. Sometimes after answering a craigs list add with my number I wonder if there using that to get phone numbers. thanks Bob
I keep getting phones calls from this number. I do not answer as I never answer numbers I do not know. But thank you to everyone that has posted about what these people are all about....scammers.
You know, I really wonder to what extent the government is paying attention to sites like this. We elected them to serve us, not us serve them. Is dealing with this "phone spam" scourge too difficult for them to stop? Before call display came along, it used to be the case that we could call Bell Canada to report a harassing caller. Now scammers like this one are taking advantage of the technology to essentially lie about where they are calling from. Considering the sheer number of phone numbers these scammers are collectively spoofing, you'd think the government would have made "spoofing" technology illegal ages ago.E-mail was around long before call display. E-mail SPAM was around long before call display. Considering that these unsolicited calls are technically spam too, albeit in a different form, you'd think that when call display was being developed, this "spoofing technology" loophole would have been closed before the technology was first released. Now this loophole is being exploited to the point where, just like e-mail spam, trying to eliminate the problem would be a gargantuan, overwhelming task for the average citizen. But not the government. All they have to do is make that spoofing technology illegal and enforce the "Do Not Call" list. They could also fine the scammers for every call they make or attempt to make after they have been ordered to no longer call. I wouldn't be surprised if these scam calls are the #1 external cause of loss of productivity in the workplace. As for us, we don't pick up the phone if we don't recognize the number--and if we do recognize the number as a scammer or telemarketer, we won't pick it up either. Those scammers should take a hint from those of us who refuse to speak to them. No matter what type of business you're in, if you don't have a solid customer base, you won't make a consistent buck.
