I just received one of these calls at work. The woman had a very thick accent and said she was from a VISA rewards center. She had the last 4 digits of my check card and my address. Stated she would be sending me a $100 gift card for using my VISA. She then was going to transfer me to her supervisor to "collect more information to insure that I got my card". I hung up and immediately notified my bank. They checked and the number is from Canada.
I think it's because they don't want you to know who they are! It may be a "patched" call that originated in another location.
I received several calls from the above number. A man with a midleeaster accent told me that he was calling about my credit number and a promotion of some kind, I did not understand all he was saying. I did not let me finish talking and told him that if calls again I will call the police. He hang the phone down.
1) Why even try? No one's doing anything about it. As long as this goes on, the phone companies, or companies that own them, are making fortunes for the use of their phone lines.2) I feel very confident in this: If you never answer the phone, or they hang up on your answering machine just before it answers, then they may not be charged for making the call. They may have a contract for "completed calls". If I don't answer, they may never stop calling. But if I answer and DON'T TALK, then they will be charged for the useless call. Enough of those silent answers and they will stop, or be found out.
I also have been rec. So many calls from this num so finally I answered and ended up hanging up 3 times finally I picked back up to try and get info from them she said why am I not interested they aren't offering anything I haven't earned and asked me to confirm info they already had I didn't think anything of it because they had all the info and I just figured I was going to get craps in the mail I could throw away but after seeing all these posts I am worried what should I do now? Also the last 4 of the card they had was a debit card that is no longer connected to any accts.
Had a missed call from this number with no message left. When I tried to call it back it wasn't a working number. Googled it and got this blog. Now I know.
Called my place of employment, 3 times, 2 times last night when we were closed (we have caller ID) and once this morning 9:22 am central time. Spoke with our receptionist and said her name was Cassander and asked for me. They wanted to speak with me about the last 4 numbers of my Visa card. When I answered the phone, the caller was gone. When I called the number back I got a busy signal. When looking up the reverse call number, it was from Canada.
They have called me for the past 2 Sundays, around two o'clock. I didn't take the call and they left no message
Also, don't you think that whoever is posting this blog that we should state what stores we have shopped at whether on-line or in-store to see how this company has received our information so it can be stopped? Someone apparently within the U.S. is stealing this private info and selling to these people in Canada!
Rcvd call from this number twice telling me that I would rcv $100 gift card in the mail for being a "loyal c card customer" the person had a very thick dialect and new my home address, cell phone number and last four of my c card. I stopped him in mid sentence bc I was at work and said I had to go, I was busy. He stated this wont take long mam etc... I just hung up the phone on him. Afraid my c card number is going to be stolen now. this crime has to stop!!!!
