It must be Microsoft, I've been tring to get into my account for days and they ahve been provided with this number - 3 days ago ! Not too efficient ! I don't answer calls unless I'm expecting one.
I was resetting some of my Security Control Settings for Hotmail/Live/OUTLOOK in the middle of the night. Then it asked me if I wanted to receive this 7-Digit CODE by text, E-Mail, or telephone call.. I chose phone call and it rang immediately after I clicked my choice. So I initiated this process with Microsoft and they replied with that California number showing up on my call display, and a mechanical voice !
It seems like this number isn't from any one company in particular. I installed Telegram instant messaging and first got a text message with a verification code, then a few seconds later a call from "California". I'm assuming both instances are related.
The number is real. However, I've been noticing the past three days, my phone calls have been forwarded. I don't ever set it up, but I always figure it out, because when call forwarding is on, my phone makes a smallll beep noise when someone is actually calling me. Then everytime I hit *73 and deactiviate call forwarding, this number calls immediately with a code to verify my number. They are a legit service, however, to me, after the research I've done, it's easy for other people to enter a phone number to forward calls to their phone, then they'll receive that call with the passcode, and then they reset the password to one of your accounts, and hack either your email, or a Microsoft account. I'm glad I turn my call forwarding off and receive these codes myself. I'm not sure which account they are trying to get into as I don't even know my own password to my Microsoft email so I just delete the messages and continue this way. Its happened to me before, and usually goes on about a week, then I guess whoever tries to keep doing it gives up. So i'll wait for it to stop again.
I was on vacation and trying to access my Hotmail account. I did this about five different times. Each time, a message advised that a verification code would be sent to my phone number on record. When I got home and checked my caller ID, I saw five calls from Buena Park CA. I then remembered who it was. In my case, this was a legit call.
This number was from verification for setting up tracking account with UPS.Just indicated from Buena Vista, CA. Upon answering, gave a code which I had to tupe in to confirm I was settin up account with UPS to track packages from UPS.
If you got as many scammers calling as we do, you wouldn't make such sarcastic remarks. Between the solar, life alert, home improvement, "free" cruises, and IRS, there is no end to crooks calling. Unless I recognize the number, I automatically assume the caller is up to no good and I would NEVER do business with him/her.
