I just got this call, and the verification code number. Not a hint as to the purpose of the code number. So, I have no idea what account or company, someone is attempting to break into.While I didn't request such, if the company is legit, then why isn't it ID'ing itself? If it is Microsoft, or Google, or Yahoo, or Chase, as mentioned here, how do I know which?

This is an automated service used by corporations as a validation service to provide legitimacy of clients. perfectly valid and safe and this service does not provide any reoccuring calls. if you recieved a call then likely you requested something from a corp and they required a validation number to be entered or someone miss typed there phone number or enter false number cause they got feeling not too. happens more often then you think. just disregard if you are not the intended recipient.

It's Microsoft giving you a sign-in code to reset your password to access your personal account so you can adjust your profile and the different news-letters that you receive.

Don't you think that Microsoft or Google or Yahoo would call you from a toll free 800 series # !!! ........not from a local landline!!... ,its some one hacking into your email , now you have changed the password to what they have given you !! wake up people ..... if you cant get into your Hotmail , just wait and try again! don't enter a code that someone else gives you !!!

I requested a code to be able to access my Outlook account. Moments later, this number showed up on my call display. I answered it, received the four digit numercial code as requested, entered it on Outlook and continued to use the service. It was perfectly legitimate.

How the hell is it OK for US when we never asked for them to call us and give us a code!! someone is trying to hack into something that has your # I just got this same damn call and I NEVER asked for it!!

Upon answer the call, the line goes dead. No one ever says anything. I receive no codes or nothing. Trying to call the number back results in busy signal or dead line.

Take a deep breath and relax. This is just a confirmation code sent out (by your request) to get into or change your access id or password to your ISP account.Why does everyone think that some unknown phone call is a precursor to black helicopters and the NSA listening in on your phone conversations? Nobody was trying to hack your phone number. Get a grip or take your meds or something. You're just not that important.

You're not on any list. It's a confirmation code for any number of services, like resetting your password, or getting back into your computer. When you request a reset you're given a choice of text or phone for your verification number. By phone the recording repeats your number twice and you enter it into the computer. Voila! You're done. Nobody's hacked you and they're not going to call again. Your code is good for 24 hours.

Do you cower in your basement in fear? Do you believe in conspiracies? This is a legitimate number. Try exercising your brain and read the 60% of the comments that tell you exactly what the call was about. It's a scam like bald is a hair color, and the number is from California. I'll just bet you talked to the Attorney General in your state. Since it's not a scam and there is nothing to shut down, I'm sure you'll be waiting a long time for an answer.I got a call from the recording when I reset my password to my Hotmail account. I would imagine that the number is assigned to Microsoft and MSNBC (which also covers Skydrive).
