Got a call on my cell from a gentleman with an Indian accent who reported I had been awarded $9600. in a grant that I will not have to pay back. He reported I had been selected because I paid my taxes on time and don't owe the Government any money. He went on to say I can use the money to make home improvements, start a small business, etc. He tried to start getting information by asking my age. I kept asking him if this was a scam. He reassured me that it wasn't. Then he asked me my age. At this point I asked him for a phone number where I could verify that this was a real deal. He told me if I called the number (1-646-583-0039) that I would no longer qualify for the grant. He went on to say the money could be delivered in one of three ways: It could be put into my savings or checking account; it could be put on a plastic card; or it could be sent by Western Union. It was at this point I ended the phone call.
The FCC National Do Not Call Registry is to report legitimate companies from calling you late at night. We need new legislation to stop spoofing The company ID on my call was V41311502000255. If these spam calls are there just to sucker one in to a bad purchases or giving away personal information we ned a legit government agency to help us.
I got a call from this number. A voice on the phone told me that if i didnt give him my credit card number, he would [***] my dog. Sparkles is very shy and would not liked to be [***], so i gave the man my credit card number. Help!
Got a call three times today from a Indian accent man saying he was with the US Treasury... I didnt believe him cuz I wasn't born yesterday if your number doesn't show up normal then it's a scam or a pathetic loser committing fraud.. So I told him u can't possibly be from the US treasury and be calling me from a retarded number.. I told him I'd be glad to take his money what was his credit card number he can help pay for my three kids.. But if I can't have money he can take his US Treasury and shove it up his [***].. He didn't say anything so I told him to be smart and hang up the phone cuz this line is tapped lol.. He immediately hung up.. Wow some people have the nerve to play games.. It's sad.
i had this magazine scam happen to me. but its impossible for them to have my card number because i got a new card like a month ago. they are saying i will have a debt to my credit. but like i said, theres no way they could have my info so does that mean im safe from paying? did you have to pay?i know this is a scam because i got scamed before (which is the whole reason i changed my card) and they sent me stuff with an "e" added to the end of my name, and these magazines came with an "e" added to the end of my name as well. so i know i didnt subscribe to them myself. someone else did it with that old card number. i dont know what to do
what happened? This exact thing is happening to me right now. did they take the money out of your account?
about a month ago, i was scammed over the phone. i was extremely distracted at the time and what they were telling me was tempting, even though in the back of my mind i was suspicious. stupid me gave them my credit card information ( they already had my adress and everything...). ive learned from this NEVER GIVE YOUR INFORMATION OUT OVER THE PHONE. This seems so obvious but they can trick you pretty bad. anyways, i checked my bank account and saw that they had charged money to a vacation service, a coupon thing and an identity theft service. i figured out i had been scammed and immediately canceled my card. once the junk from these services came in the mail i realized my name had an "e" at the end of it on the mailing address. so obviously it was fake since they couldn't protect me from identity theft if my name was spelled wrong. nothing happened untill now. about a week ago i got the magazine "parents" in the mail. i thought it had come from an itunes promotion (you know, to get more coins you sign up for a free month of a magazine-not entering a credit card or anything). so i noticed it had the "e" at the end of my name as well. i didnt want this magazine because i am 19 and not a parent...i emailed the magazine and i got a very official looking email saying they had canceled m subscription...i hope they really have. this number has been calling me about magazine subscriptions (that i never applied for), and they conveniently decide to leave out which magazines i have subscribed to. at first they called and i told them to cancel my subscriptions. they told me they did. they've been calling like 5 times a day since then. i finally answered today and was talking to the lady and she was telling me that i had to pay for 20 months of service because i didn't cancel after the free 30 days (i never got notified!!! this i told her) and because of that i needed to pay for the next 20 months. then i would have the option to opt out of a 5 year subscription, and if i didn't, 79.99 would be charged to my credit card. so i told her i had canceled this subscription a week ago and she said "do you have a confirmation code" and i said "no i was never given one" and she's like "well theres nothing i can do then." I said "well you could cancel it for me now!" and she ignored that comment. so our conversation continues and as i start to become more pissed she gets nervous. when i tell her "let me be honest with you. i know this is a [***] scam and im not paying for [***]!" she says "well have a nice day then mam" and hangs up. im just concerned: can they charge me since absolutely no one had my working card number? they only have my canceled one. i swear, i [***] hate having a cell phone. the next phone i get will have a different [***] number!
It sounds like this is no longer a magazine scam. This is now an extortion scam where you are charged with not paying a fake debt. Don't pay. If you pay, they will just hit you with a new fake debt next month because you are a gullible, vulnerable victim. It will never stop. As to whether you are "safe from paying?", I think you are safe as long as the scammers don't have your new number but you should monitor your accounts for the next few months and report problems to your bank immediately.
