Yes definitely a fraud. Called American Express to verify it and they had not contacted me. DO NOT CALL BACK. DO NOT GIVE YOUR NUMBER.
THIS IS LEGIT. I called the number on the back of my card, and the rep told me that it is a legit AMEX number from credit services. He transferred me to that department, and the lady looked over my account. She said there was no fraudulent activity or missed payments, this number is just an "automated call" number that was for some reason linked to my landline, and it should not have been, so she took my number off of the list. She did NOT ask for my social security number, only asked to verify the year I was born. If you are unsure of a number, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS call the number on the back of your card first to validate any suspicions! Again, this IS A LEGIT AMEX NUMBER.
Doesn't mean ANYTHING as ANY number can be spoofed. So what if it's a 'legit' number? If they were to call me guess what? It wouldn't be a legit call as I am not WITH AMEX!
Receiving repeated calls, same story, asking for return call to 800-592-1160. Clearly scamming. Is there any agency tasked with tracking down / shutting down these folks? Should be a fairly trivial task, given their phone number.
Just 10 seconds ago, a message came over the answering machine, American Express has an important matter to discuss, call back at 1-800-592-1160. I am unaware of anyone living here with an American Express account. More than likely, a scam.
Keep getting calls from Amex 2 or 3 times a day. They use 3 different numbers. Today they even asked if this was the right # for my son. I told them I no longer have the card and to not call anymore. Pretty bad customer service when the keep bothering you so often. They can send the same info in the mail if needed.
I called the number on the amex website CUSTOMER SERVICE 1-800-528-4800 24/7 The rep said these numbers *1-800-592-1160) along with the 623 area code number are nonpublished AMEX numbers, and they were updating systems today, and had some gliches.
I contacted AMEX via chat and they said It was a real number and that they should have left a voicemail.
Got the same message. Called Amex number from my card. They verified that 800-592-1160 is a REAL Amex phone number and is "card services."They even transferred me over to card services who verified the phone number and that the call was made.
I have never had an AmEx account. I got a message on my work phone number (which has been my extension for three years) saying the same thing others have heard - important business matter, call 800-592-1160 by the end of the day. Maybe somebody put my phone number as contact info on their account, but it seems more likely to me that it's a scam. But if the 800 number is legit, I'm not sure how the scam would work. I guess they could be softening you up for future calls. In any case, I would never call a phone number left in a voicemail if it regards credit. The only safe approach is to call numbers you already know are good.
