This is one more reason I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize. If you owe a legitimate debt, call the original debtor and pay them directly, if they refuse, then it means they don't want your money bad enough. I paid a debt collection agency and had my debt never get sent to the original company b/c they already "charged it off." This means, they got a tax break for reporting the $1500 I owed them.I made the mistake of paying a company $1000 thinking the money was going to go back to the original company. Not only did the debt collector sucker $1000 out of me, but they KEPT no records and when I asked for a statement showing what I had paid, they never sent me one. I refused to pray the remaining $500 until they did. Turned out, 5 years later, I was taken to court by the last company to try to collect it using legal proceedings. I asked for a continuence in order to defend myself. I then gathered up ALL my copies of my checks, went to court again this time, armed with PROOF of my hardship and the $1000 payments. They had ..NOTHING!! I mean nothing to show;... the judge threw the debt out! I haven't heard from anyone about it since! But, it took 7 years to take the debt off my record!! (go to annualcreditreport.com) and get a free copy of all your credit reports each year. (have loads of paper in your printer!) and then , look at them...We disputed a credit card bill on my daughter's record (she's only 20 years old) and it had been there before she was born! My husband had a 30/60 days late on his..because of a problem with GMAC not settling when our new car totalled in a freak accident. We disputed both of these in a form they give you online and within 2 weeks, bot things had been fixed and taken off our records! It pays to get your free report once each year. Usually the report agency just takes your word for it that it isn't your debt and takes it off!!
I got a new phone number about 6 months ago. Starting with the next day after getting this number they started calling asking for who must of been the previous owner of the number. It is ABSOLUTELY impossible to get them to quit calling me daily. No matter who I ask to speak to, no matter what I do they continue to call me daily asking for someone else. They refuse to accept I am not the person they are looking for.The calls are a mixture of a live person calling and a machine asking me to stay on the line. These Portfolio people seem to have more complaints online than any other recovery service. How have they not been shut down ???
Calls me every day even weekends. Leaves an annoying message says If they got the wrong number that I should call them and leave them all my info. I DONT THINK SO!!!
What a idiot you are, the government doesn,t contact by phone you twit. You work for them aye?
Tell them the next time they call you are going to lawyer up and sue them for violations of the FDCPA and TCPA for harassing a non-debtor if the calls do not stop.
Use a vop phone number, voice over protocol, which is a app like text now, or many more. They come with free calling or you have to watch a ad like youtube ads and you get mins. I use a number for this whenever a er visit happens nd billing for bills just in case it goes to a collection place. When my regular people call hospital and so i don't answer it and call them back from a blocked number to see what they want. I check the app once a day
I try to call back as this does not apply to me. I do not owe anyone money beyond the bills I PAY! Yikes, someone help to stop these calls as they are also flooding my voicemail. I tried to go on the website they quoted and it does not work.
Tell them the next time they call you are going to lawyer up and sue then for violations of the FDCPA and TCPA for harassing a non-debtor if the calls do not stop.
