they don't identify themselves, just leave the return call number, and say this is not a sales call.

This really is Citibank. I just spoke with them, it was regarding my Shell credit card. Several of my cards are through Citi bank, including home depot, shell, citgo, and more. Go ahead and answer it, but don't give them any information, they should already have it (your name, address, card number, etc). They were very nice and helpful.

I get calls from this number about 3-4 times a day starting as early as 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. EST. I say "hello" over and over and no one says a thing.

I received several calls from this number and my caller id states Citicorp. They wanted my account number and I didn't give it to them. I asked how do I know they are legit, the woman very calmly responded with "you don't" and so I said I was going to phone the number on the back of the card and hung up. I phoned the number on the back of all my cards and there was NOTHING on record with them phoning me. Scam!

Thank you all so much! I have been getting these calls for several days, but these people crossed the line when they called my work number. In my case, the very rude caller claimed that I had not sent any payment for 30 days; when I told her I had the statements from Citi verifying and crediting the payments, she made up something else, "the payment due date of August 25 has passed." I told her that my payments were due on the 6th of each month; once again, these payments have been credited. When she protested again, I said I would have the bank call her to inquire: she hung up. I asked the bank to inquire, and I am waiting to hear. In the meantime, thanks to caller ID, I don't have to answer the phone.

Sounds like a phishing scam.
