Forget this one even exists, Portfolio will call all day and all night long, the debts are past due and they know it, when they do not get an answer they will finally send a piece of paper stating they want to help solve your debt. Don't fall for it, look at the bottom of the paper and you will see the following message, it states because the debt is too old and is out of the Statue of Limitations they cannot sue you. This is something new that I have never noticed being on the form before. This company is a worthless bottom feeding company that is hoping and praying that one of their calls or notices finally wear you down and you answer and they get you to agree to making a payment, do not fall for this. Somebody was kind enough to put together all of the phone numbers that they use put the list to good use do not answer the phone no matter how annoying it is let's just make them sign up 192 more phone numbers. As for my phone it can keep on ringing if a company does not have the decency to identify themselves I don't answer it and yes when it finally shows up as Portfolio I definitely don't answer it because my particular situation goes back to the year 2000 and this debt has been sold from one company to another. These companies are all bottom feeders what was once a $200 debt is now over $1500 because these bottom feeders all decided they needed interest. All I have to say is keep on calling and keep on selling it to somebody else because nobody's home and in the year 2050 some fool somewhere will probably still be trying to collect this debt and I will be long gone.

I had a stroke and keep callen me for trying to get me to pay them with my disability.
Very well said. They indeed did file suit against me for a balance of $2900. Got laid off three times in four years and we paid our rent, utilities and food only just to survive. I did respond to their suit. Trial is later this year. They then sent me a huge packet with a copy of my agreement with Capital One, along with their written testimony, as they have no intention of sending someone to court. I'm in Los Angeles, and the attorney's office is in San Jose, CA. I'd like to point out that it appears they were facing sanctions from the judge as they said they couldn't serve me. Because the judge is aware of their predatory behavior, they were forced to formally serve me with the papers. Their original intention was to push it through without my ability to respond within the time allotted by law, thereby gaining a judgement against me. It cost me $400 to file my answer, but the clerk whispered to me "this isn't going anywhere, so relax". The attorney's office, for informational purposes, is Hunt & Henriques. I notice their office number on my caller ID now and then, and I usually let it go to voice mail, they never leave a message, but I have picked up a few times just to hear them try to mess with me, but when I do answer they simply hang up. It's a game for them, and one that I'm willing to play. Keep in mind, it costs more for them to file the suits. On a separate note, I had another Capital One account that also suffered during unemployment with a balance under $1000 and they sent a letter clearly stating that they would not file suit, but they will keep attempting to collect on the debt.
Just received a call from the number. Figures it's PRA. Idiots. Reading through the comments, correct me if I'm wrong, but as much as we'd love to let the SOL run on some of these (I'm another one severely affected by the Great Recession), I believe that when the debt is sold to yet another debt collector, it actually gives the SOL date a new date. So once PRA bought the debt from Capital One or whomever held it prior, it technically becomes a "new" debt effective that day. This is why they have the ability to continue to harass good folks. On a side note, I received a notice from a company that they were going to "forgive" one of my debts, and they sent a 1099 just in time for my taxes. While it's "nice" to have one less debt hanging over my head, I had to declare it as "income", but the funny part is the notice basically said they're going to continue to post negative stuff on my credit report. After three years of unemployment, my once decent credit is complete crap. it pains me to think about it.
